hey there, i know this aint a toyota forum but i feel a bit better asking you guys because you seem a bit more knowledgeable..
1991 Toyota Corolla... have broken something in the ignition barrel and it wouldnt crank.. but i can use the key and hotwire it and drive off.. i went to upullit and all the ignition barrels are too small to fit around the column..
now would it be worth me going to repco and getting a few switches and making it a push button start while i wait for a suitable ignition barrel??

lol, take that suit off!
ok, to run your starter through a switch, its either gonna have to be a monster Amp switch, or run through a relay. you know how to wire up a relay?
i think most toyotas around that era have those bolts that sheer the heads off once you do them up, so replacment will most likely have to be new. but with a new unit you get new bolts
push button switch will have to be a momentary switch, to a relay, to the starter. but you will have to have an ignition 'on' switch also, and possibly a seperate 'accessorys on' switch too. both will need to be pretty high Amps.
*reluctantly takes suit off... and puts flame goggles on" lol
wouldn't just unplugging the barrel and wiring it from the terminals go through the relays still? or does the barrel have an internal relay? i hate them bolts... took me ages to drill them out
