im thinking about fitting some 19 x 8.5 wheels to my VY and then putting superlows in it. I had a bit of a look around the forum but couldnt really find what i was looking for.
Can anyone tell me anything that might be a problem, scrubbing or problems with the front turning? Also how bad will the ride be? im geussing nothing fantastic but as long as its not like a rock then im not too worried?
as a side note: anything i might notice in terms of the driving effect on the car? acceleration and braking wise?
braking and acceleration will decrease a bit (bigger & wider wheels, more traction to move, more weight etc)
so will steering (going from 15x6 to 19x8.5?)
Ride will be pretty bad, better if you get shortened shocks.
8.5 does seem too wide, but I have 8 wide and no trouble on a VS.
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
I put superlows on my vx with the standard weels which are 16's or 17s and i found that it handles much better and over all its better to drive, there isnt any scrubbing either, it sits jsut right.
if you were going to go 19's i rekon you should get SSL, might be a bit hard but it would look better.
well i've got the stock S pack wheels on there at the moment which from memory are 17x8 so its probably not a big a jump as from 15x6 lol
iyeah only thing is i can only get out of the driveway in reverse now without bashing the flanges of the exhaust on the gutter (its messed up but im thinking of seeing the council or whoever to fix it) so SSL i would really struggle... it would probably look better but i kinda need to it be slightly practical as well.f you were going to go 19's i rekon you should get SSL, might be a bit hard but it would look better.
Also if i order them to fit a VY will i need to worry about what offset it is or should this be already set?
Ive got 20*8.5 on Superlows. With 19s you shouldnt encounter to many issues as far as clearance goes.
I have scrubbing on the back, my rear right tyre hits a screw that goes from the inside guard to apparently the rear bumper, however I think thats more of a diff off center issue as the other side is perfectly fine and there is plenty of clearance.
Honestly, the ride is not fantastic if you are used to stock suspension and 17" rims. You feel every bump and potholes must be treated like HIV.
yeah if you need to be a bit practicle you shouldnt have much trouble at all with the SL's and it would still look awesome![]()
With the offset, the wheels should adjust themselvs and sit normaly, you dont have to worry about offset if your car is VT II and newer.
I got 18's and SSL's and they don't scrub. Mind you, a full carfull would!
yeah im not keen on SSL's lol... the green P on the car makes me a target as it is lolI got 18's and SSL's and they don't scrub. Mind you, a full carfull would!
I had 19x8.5 with a p42 offset with 245/35/19 rubber on my vy ss. Even at standard height I had some scrubbing issues that was solved by getting the guards rolled n a tiny bit of the rear bumper trimmed off where the plastic meets the metal just above the 2 screws. Fixed the clearance issues then. Later on I got it dropped to 320mm guard to hub on the front and 305mm rear still with no issues.
Basicly the rim size isn't the prob it's the tyre size n offset that's the prob.
being in sydney means every breath test the cops see the green p and give the car a little look... its stock as a rock except for the exhaust which isnt that loud so they never say anything but they give it a look when they check for the rear p plateI'm on my Reds, i somehow haven't got any attention lol.
