hi there
thinking of getting 20s for my vu commodore just wondering what size to get as in how wide, 8, 8.5 etc, and does the offset matter, if so what is the ideal measurements to get.
cheers![]()
You need to look at what will fit,the first thing you need to know is that they will be illegal so you could get a defect on your car but in saying that once you decide on what wheels you want then you will have a better idea on what tyres will fit onto them. And yes the offset does matter it decides whether the tyres will rub or not,and it depends on how lowered the car is also.
i am pretty certain 20s with fit i have seen them on cars like mine before. i also understand they are illegal aswell, but that doesnt really bother me, i have a link here on what rims i want NEW 20" inch ICON WHEELS 'MOVE' for Holden Commodore | eBay. if u could see if they would be to wide, if so what width would be good. here is also another link with the same set of rims with tyres, tell me if they are good or no good,
20" ICON MOVE WHEELS 20 x 8.5 w/Tyres for VE Commodore | eBay
Yes they are good 245/35/20. But with the 45 offset what some cars find is that the front wheels rub, like I said b4 it will depend on how low you have the suspension,I take it that you will be lowering the car? But you shouldnt have any problems if you leave the suspension stock.
What are the factory size wheels for his car, there is no more tolerance for larger wheel sizes so if they are not 20" factory then they are illegal. And if you looked at the wheels he wants they are a different size than what your suggesting the offset on them is 45
Bullshit. The 2" rule is rubbish. There are other rules that MAY make his choice in wheel defectable, however the diameter in the wheel will not.
To OP, Ive got 20 * 8.5" with 225/35 tyres. Im running Kings Superlow suspension, they fit fine. You may need to get the guards rolled but that wont cost you anymore than 150 bucks. Just make sure they are the right offset and youre golden.
I agree 225/35/20 are great but the ones that he is looking at have an offset 45,which you yourself are saying to make sure the offset is correct, and Grennan that rule no longer applies in nsw and thats where he is from,so they will be illegal
I just read the NSW laws. As long as the tyre doesnt exceed certain sizes he is fine. He can have as big as rims as he can fit under his guards, as long as he stays within the tyre regulations.
Actual diameter of the rim does not matter. If he can find the correct offset and find the correct tyres, 20 inch rims will be perfectly legal.
Yes ok I agree

thanks for all the help guys, yer i understand about the wheel sizes u can fit a big as rim as u want but just aslong as you stick to the correct tyre size than ur fine. speaking about the offset with the rims that i want, what is the ideal offset to have, coz i have already lowered the car, but not sure what springs are in it coz it was done when i bought it.
Well try stay away from multi-stud wheels because most of the time their offset is more towards ford etc instead of BMW/Holden.
I'm not 100% on it, so I won't say but ask a wheel place about it. Some come in 38, 42, 48 etc.. It's all different
I also think that 38 would be the best
