I'm not sure what motor was in a GTO I worked on the other day.....but it was DAMN site bigger then a 5.7...It shook the building as I nosed it into the install bay, the owner said it was a stock motor (he was from the south and I couldn't understand him, he couldn't unbderstand me either.) But, he also said it would quite happily spin fourth and he could drop the clutch in third and bag them up....

No Australia actually has the cheapest Monaro in the world... bloody stupid I know seeing it's the car's home country! The Monaro works out to be A$60,490 here. American cost converted to Australian dollars would be 'bout A$45k. English cost conveted to Australian 'bout A$50k. And Australia and New Zealand are the only country to lose the Monaro. England still gets THE EXACT SAME CAR, only difference is the badges. HSV is rumoured to be keeping the Monaro as an HSV-only model. I bloody-well hope they do...

As for the GTO vs CV8 argument, the GTO is imported as a performance model, so why not compare to our performance model the HSV GTO.....same engine as yours with better looks

Yeah i think it would be fairer to compare the pontiac GTO to the HSV GTO seeing as they both have the same engines, as the monaro cv8z still only has the 5.7L GEN 111

I was unaware there was a gen IV powered Monaro. I didn't find it on the holden site. I didn't look that hard either.

Okay i found it. The HSV GTO has a 6.0 L Gen IV LS2 engine. For those non-Aussies out there HSV is Holden Special Vehicles. And the GTO is the HSV version of the Monaro.

Funny thing though is pontiac only sells one GTO, and it comes with the gen IV. The gen III LS1 died with the camaro. The trucks come with there own version of the gen III but its no LS1.
