Default Hid xenon light kit conversion

    Hi everyone,

i want to put a HID conversion kit in 2002 holden vu ute. i am thinking of getting a kit from ebay, either in the aus. or usa, possibly from aus. coz there to expensive in retail stores, just wondering if i just buy a normal kit will that be suitable, or is there anything that i need to watch out for, such as a certain number of globes, or dodgey brands, or do i need to get a certain model to suit my ute, or are all universal.

thinking of something like the ones in the kit below as a example.

if you get back to me on the topic that would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

55w HID kit, damn that will be bright, I think you want a 35w kit, but I'm not 100% sure.

Also have you converted your lights to Projector style. HIDs with the factory Reflector style lights = fail.

You best have a set of these (projector lights) or prepare feel the fury of every other road user's high beams when they're constantly blinded by HID's in crappy reflector housings.

I have HIDs in more modern crystal style lenses on my VS and they are great.

They are also illegal, and in order not to blind oncoming traffic, need to be aimed lower and further to the left than normal.
Even then, they have a strange kind of beam because they aren't designed to fit into normal lights.. the focal point is different and they throw a kind of high extra 'shadow' that I am sure the truckies would hate, though I have never been flashed.

I originally had H4s and H3s both in HID, but now I have switched to Philips 5000k H4 globes, and left the HID H3s in, as well as adding HID H3s in a pair of spotlights. This means the lights can be adjusted normally, and the only time you bother anyone is with high beam, which obviously you would be dipping anyway. Also means you wont attract the cops with your illegal lights around town.

High beam is freaking awesome though with 8000k HID in the headlights and 10000k in the spotties..

These are all 35W, 55W is ridiculous trust me, you dont realise just how bright these suckers are till you see one against the other. Dont do it !!

As you have a later model, you may be able to pick up projector style headlamps for it, which are more suitable for HID, but still illegal without self levelling and headlight washers..

Dont know about good quality or not, but mine were a lot cheaper than that at CARs-R-US in Qld. Havent had any problems at all.

You are going to get flamed for not searching lol, there is a mass of stuff on this subject in here.. and I will get flamed for answering !!

yer i dont think i will get the 55w HID kits, i am thinkng more towards the 35w kit. Yer i like the idea of the h4s with the hi and low beams would be much more suitable for my liking. so pretty much what ur saying is i have to get new head lights, coz they have the projector screen than put the hid kits in the new lights, for the reasons u said is that correct. ill do some more research on it by searching through the forum aswell. thanks

I have the 55w 4300k h4 kit in my vy ss and have never been flashed, i used a headlight adjuster at my work to properly adjust the lights aswell. One day i was travelling down the highway at night doing a little over the speed limit and a cop coming the opposite direction turned around and pulled me over and didnt say anything about my lights. My advice is just stick to anything under 5000k anything over starts to get that bluish tinge to it.
