Hey guys just wondering if i can get some help!! i want to buy a car over east as i am from WA. wat will i have to do to get it over here?? and costs if any1 knnows from experance cheers![]()
if its driveable just drive it. its not worth towing it.
swag and and airline ticket one way, and few days to drive it back, thats if its driveable
I've always wanted to fly to WA and drive back to Sydney. Think I'm gonna take a few weeks off later in the year to do it.
We have done it twice, bought a car from east and had them shipped over. The last one was about 18 months ago and it cost $1200 to ship. You have to weigh up the cost of flying and driving if you want to get it over the cheapest way.
Roughly 4000kms, say you get 10L/100, that's 400L. Fuel across the nullabor will be near $2 a litre, so if you average the fuel at say, $1.70, that's $680. A one way ticket is currently about $350, add in food and accomodation and you can be up to $1300-$1400.
That is assuming a trouble free run and not having to get anything fixed on the car before you leave. But if it was me, I'd fly over and drive it back.
Ive flown to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to buy cars and drive them back to Adelaide.
Its also good if you have friends along the way you can stop over for the night.
It does have risks though if you are not familiar with the car, the one in Sydney I bought had a lot of problems. Luckily I have a good friend there and stayed at his house for about a week.
Also dont buy a car from NSW unless it comes with rego or a blue slip. I found out I cant get a permit unless it passes roadworthy..
Apart from that the only problem I had was when I was driving back from Melbourne with GPS that sent me up a dirt track to no where, finally come to a house after hours where 2 guys were interigating me why I was there and what I was doing ect. I told them I was lost, they didn't buy it at first but ended up telling me how to get to the train tracks and follow them to the nearest town (about another a hour+ on a shitty dirt track).
ive drivin across the nullarbore a few times and yeah its highway robbery the fuel prices out there! good drive but, abba i was looking at flights yesterday most were around $212 one way, less without baggage.
id agree driving it would be the best way though
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
I just checked this morning, Sydney to Perth is cheaper than Perth to Sydney. $356 is the current Perth to Sydney one way. Just found some more....cheapest at the moment is $168.
im looking at doing this aswell, pretty much ruled out the idea of driving it, the only thing i have questions about is paying for the car and transfer papers etc?
hmm hate something to go wrong with it in the middle of know where just an idea once you buy the car buy a couple large jerry cans i would anyway, and stock up on fuel.
