Hi ya was just wondering if anyone out there can remember much about the VK bt1's i have a white one and was wondering which state it was a cop car in? i'm guessing NSW? or WA? it was built in adelaide but i'm uncertain if SA used white at all i'm thinkin back then they had light blue VIC had absinth yellow and not sure bout the rest and the old does it have bt1 on the plate question dont work well with the VH-VK cause ive only ever seen a 6 cylinder manual VK with bt1 on the plate that was white- all the other ex-cop VK's ive seen even with numbers still evident on the roof did not have bt1 on the plate this appears to have only been ongoing from VL onward and kinda sparodic before hand anyhow the car had when i bought it the cop dash, shifter, wires up to the roof still, extra horn(dual), extra wires and a relay for the head lights (what was that for?) calais interior light, plain black map pockets, standard SL interior and most telling the ariel hole smack in the middle of the rear half of the roof its also got rust stain lines across front of bonnet and down both sides of the car so you can see exactly where the decals were positioned its obviously an old V8 auto trans general duty cop car but where from? i also have an d1008 paint code VH ex cop and yep no bt1 on the plate but obviously ex V8 cop it to has the fine incremented speedo shifter etc etc i dont think the public could buy a 5litre SL VH back in 82 could they only SLE? also the paint code is apparently government only during that period- thanks heaps for any help![]()
All I can help you with is by agreeing that VIC did have the yellow ones. I think they were only highway patrol though?
Other general cop cars were white and I'm sure the yellow were highway patrol only.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
I grew up in Vic (have been in WA since 89) and remember well the yellow VK "candy" cars. I seem to remember them being traffic cars as one would regularly sit in a driveway across the road from where we lived (The bottom of Waverley Rd hill if anyone from Vic knows the area) with the amphometer speed trap (the modern version is the radar gun or speed camera for all the youngsters out there). I can also recall white ones as well which would have been the general duties cars...more likely your 6 cyl models I suppose.
Before my beloved VS I had a silver VK ex pursuit back in the early to mid 90s - 304, M21 & LSD. Basic grey executive interior, a whole bunch of mystery cables under the carpet and B cast heads from factory. I can't remember whether it had BT1 on the complaince plate or not. My VS certainly does though.
I got rid of the VK in 98 so some of the finer details are a bit sketchy now although the Calais interior light rings a bell. Apparently it was a Kalgoorlie detectives car (about 600 kms east of Perth). Certainly had the good old red dust traces as evidence.
It sure was a fun car to drive.
In terms of other VH 5 litre models, I thought the Vacationer had a 5 litre option back then.....could be wrong though.
5l available in sl only to government depts i believe. I too have an ex cop vh 6/83 rhone green and it dont have anything special on the plates either. It has the speedo,wires.sl/e int light, hole in r rear guard, ashtrays in all 4 doors, xtra deep console and hot weather fuel kit [fuel lines in chassis rail]. Also on the back of the speedo it has 'HWY 28" and 15129 written in pencil. I believe the 15129 is the police serial number. Also i believe vk 5l cop cars DIDNT have a rear stabiliser bar
Thanks heaps guys yeh it actually appears the highway patrol VK's had manuals big valve heads and no rear stabiliser bar the cars were very low with all the shot guns hookers macca's and shit in the back so it was in the way?? i dunnno wish there was still info and pics of these cars around like the interior layout not just some boring snap shots! my Vk has a rear stabiliser so once again just a city run around hurl the bad guy across the bonnet job it appears ..
