Hi all,
just wondering what is the highest number of K's done by a commodore and still running?
It would be good to know how long these engines last for.
I have a VR Acclaim and just done over 560,000 kms. This is privately owned and mostly highway k's. Ive serviced it every 6 months or 10,000kms; which ever came first.
My motto was when i first bought this car when new was "its mine for as long as it lives"
I know there are many ex-cabs out there that have done more but are they still on the road and running? It would be interesting for any model commodore.
there was a fella on here who's VS had over 700,000 on the clock, think hes wreaking the car now though, lol
my mates got a x taxi im pretty sure its a vz its got 770 xxxkms on it lol but thats the taxis for ya
My VS has 350,000 and only ever had the water pump die which I think is pretty good (well maintained) hoping to get it up to at least 500,000 then will either do a 304/308/LS1 conversion
My mates subaru has done 1,300,000km (on its original engine) with just minimal maintenance (classic 80's subie, they don't build them like that anymore)
i know of a bloke who's had his vt from new and it know has 650 thou on it. serviced every 7.5 thou.
i know its not a commi but i have a caby mate that has a au ford that ticked over the 1000000 mark, now sitting at the 120,000 (just went out of commision), he went through 6x trans doing so but still had the orig motor serviced every blue moon.. otherwise another friend has got a vs with 650k... but yea quite happy with my vy at 110000
theres been a few of these threads, plenty of vt/x taxis still kicking with over 1 million kms on them
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
I might have a winner. When I got my first car roadworthied in 2004, there was a 1990 VN ex taxi at my mechanics with 1.7mil on it. Its ORIGINAL engine had just died and they were tossing up whether or not to scrap it or put another engine in it.
So it did 1.7million on one engine and 3 transmissions
thats a good effort
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
first place deff! wow they just dont make cars like they use too
My old VP wags had done over 400,000 when I sold it way back when. Other than regular service items it was still on it'e original everything including automatic.
Reaper
This thread just goes to show how tough Commies are if you look after them. It's why there are still so many on the road from VN onwards. They were crude but bloody tough.
not a com but hey

I saw a vl wagon with 9 hundred and something thousand, i couldnt believe it. It had ran up the arse of another car, and didnt look to be in too bad condition
