    Default Decent brake pads

Hi, I may be due for new brake pads soon and I am wanting to know what a reasonable brand are. I've read on this forum that some can squeel and I just want a good set that are like the original ones from factory, as mine still are original and have never made a noise, have worn very well and I would like the same brand again.
So, does anyone know what factory VY II Sedan had?
Or a brand that is very similar in quality?
I will be getting these fitted at a local brake place which have a very good reputation and I've had other work done there before, too, but I thought I'd get some advice off the forum first. Cheers.

I had the exact same problem with my generic pads and moved up to Bendix CT pads (around $60-70 for a front set) and haven't had any squeaks/squeals since

Totally agree. Get the Bendix and you will never hear the spueal again. Plus they are a great set of brakes pads with some good stopping power.
Plus F all brake dust. Compared to stock shite

I don't know that the pads from the Holden dealer are all crap. I use Delco pads and find them totally noise and dust free, and only around $60 a set trade. They don't set the world on fire but wear well and give good braking response. The dealer gives me the option of genuine or Delco pads and the genuine ones are dearer. I'm stuffed if I know how they can be better than the Delco's and I though Delco was genuine GM stuff anyway.

OK, guys, thanks for the answers. I will go for Bendix or Delco by the looks of it. Whatever factory was, was great IMO. These don't squeel or have excess dust so I'd like the same brand as factory. I don't do a lot of heavy braking, hence the current factory ones are nearly 8 years old, and two years ago when I had fluid flushed and changed, the brake place told me I still had 50% pads left.
Are there different types of pad within these brands, ie, hard/soft compound, etc?

Don't think there is diff compound on the Bendix fronts iv got. They were $70 from Super Cheap.
Iv come from the stock brakes and feel when its a stinking hot day and you've been on the road for a bit, the brakes feel real spongey. Haven't had that yet with my new set. A nice feel through the brake pedal.

I'd go EBC ultimax. Great pads for stock applications.

Your bendix and delco come in both a harder and softer compound. Personally i'd stay away from a harder compound because the brake squeal will end up driving you nuts. Your standard bendix pads are probably the better option. As a mechanic i'd tell my customers to go with bendix pads 9 outta 10 times (depending on application of course).
Another mention as well is to stay away from bosch brake pads. They are designed as a harder compound (even they're soft compound is hard) and will squeal until your ears bleed

bed in the brakes properly and avoid the squeel. last pads i put in my vy ss was a set of rb75 pads from race brakes sydney. these are their own pads which are street/circut pad and need a good rotor fitted otherwise that will tear up a stock rotor in no time. i had some dba 5000 rotors on the front with these pads and motul fluid and from 120km to stoped would happen in about 10m less which is a big gain. also from 250km to stopped wouldnt fade which is great

Thanks for your help, blokes. Looks like I'll go for Delco or Bendix, the brake place here is pretty good, so I can tell him which brand I want, then get his opinion on what type of compound to get for no squeel and decent pad life. Just helps me out to be able to ask for a brand that I know is good.
My son went to this same place and got new rotors and "cheaper" pads that do squeel slightly. I'm sure, however that if he were able to spend a little more he would have got ones that were quieter.
So now I can let the bloke know that I'm after the above named brands, rather than something that they may have that sounds good, but may be noisy. Cheers.

EBC make quality pads, I think they are called greenstuff, no squeal and minimal brake dust.

Bendix are fine if you just want an everyday brake pad.

Personally, when I do my pads next Ill be going with EBC Green Stuff. Low dust, good quality they are made for harder than normal street driving. They also have Red stuff which has even less dust however are for...more spirited driving. Sure the cost is different to your regular off the shelf Bendix pads but they last longer to.

And I think they have yellow stuff, or is it blue stuff, that is the pinnacle of brake performance, though they are useless on the street as the need heat to operate to their optimum performance. I've always used green stuff and they have been great, easier to clean your rims with less brake dust

Their ranking goes something like Regular Pads -> Ultimax -> Green Stuff -> Red Stuff -> Yellow Stuff -> Blue Stuff. Blue and Yellow is for dedicated track cars. Green and Red are High Performance Street, id be leaning more towards Green for everyday use though.

How expensive are the Green ones. Ive never actually sold a set at work.
