    Default ADR's

    Guys

Was wondering if anybody here had some recent dealings with trying to get some ADR approval for a/some mechanical items.

I'm particularly interested in looking at getting ADR approval in order to sell to the masses.

If you have and wouldnt mind having your brain picked, could you please send me a PM with your details or conversely, could anyone please post up some good links

    Thanks

You might be the man. Thanks

I am looking at UK designed and made components to be sold on mass to the Australian market. Brakes to be specific but also will include superchargers exhausts etc

most euro stuff is dot and e marked. so you can just use euro origin.

but as ebay has proven time and again. people dont really seem to care if their tail-lights pass ADR's, as long as they look fulley sick uleh.

brakes will be dot or e marked so thats an automatic pass in most cases. superchargers and exhausts dont really have any adr's.

The problem I have is this:

Most guys seem to want to buy brakes with ADR approval so that they can please their insurance companies. What we had considered (the UK company and myself) was being able to provide a certificate with the brakes that tells them they are compliant with Australian Regulations. I want this as much as they do to cover myself in regards to liability. In one of my recent emails with the manufacturer, he stated that he was talking to TUV to get Euro compliance. Is that what you mean. Are you suggesting if he gets that for each kit that that is sufficient for Australian road use and safety and would appease Insurance companies? How do I give someone something that states this.

As for ebay, I know what you mean but I want the full safety aspect on this product because I want it consistently stopping 200kmh cars. I didnt realise there were no ADR's on Superchargers and Exhausts so thats another good thing

    yeah sure i totally understand.

you need to understand that when i say "there are no adr's on superchargers and exhausts" i mean they are not legal to fit to a car. full stop. if they are fitted to a car then full testing needs to be carried out to prove that they are legal. exhausts are simple, cos' they just need a simple noise test:
ADR 37 - Emission Control for Light Vehicles

The intention of this Australian Design Rule is to limit 'Fuel Evaporative Emissions' and 'Exhaust Emissions' from motor vehicles in order to reduce air pollution, and to require new petrol fuelled motor vehicles to be manufactured to operate on 'Unleaded Petrol'.

/00 - This standard has been superseded by ADR 79/ for new vehicles as from 1 October 2006.
ADR 79 - Emission Control for Light Vehicles

The function of this Australian Design Rule is to prescribe exhaust and evaporative emission requirements for light vehicles in order to reduce air pollution.
found here: Third Edition Australian Design Rules

every car approved for full/mid/low volume importing or local manufacturing has to demonstrate its ability to pass all ADR's pertanant to their years. so what you are attempting to do is import aftermarket performance prodcucts and sell them off as ADR compliant, but they never will be, because the cars were never tested with them to meet their approval.

    you could:

    buy your supercharger
buy a SPECIFIC car for it to go onto (say, automatic, V6 commodore, 4 door, 2002)
    fit the charger
send it to ford for emissions test
spend $2k +++ for the report
find out it failed, due to the fact their emmissions standards are hardcore and i am surprised most cars on the road managed it.

or lets say you miraculously passed, you now have an approval to fit that charger to that car, but not manual, not 2 door, not 2003.

    get the idea?

i dont really know much about brakes, because every braking component on the cars i import is e, dot, and JIS compliant, so we just use the e or dot mark to confiorm to ADR. its just my job to make sure they are all factory units when the cars come in, and if not they get swapped back to factory.
