Chances are it may have spend the vast majority of its lie going sideways

Sounds like a nackered diff but a fluid change can sometimes help

My vs diff whinned really badly, and knocked like chain slack when you gassed on at speed. My family were the only owners and it didn't get badly caned. Bit of heavy towing though.

I replaced the fluid with thick synthetic penrite fluid. Stopped knocking and didn't whine as badly.

Could also sound deaden the boot to quieten it down a bit more too.

This recently happened to my VS ute.
It slowly got worse and worse until it came to the point where it was louder then my radio and exhaust.
I ended up getting it reconditioned and it took the sound away and just generally tightened everything up.

Id try changing the oil for some nice thick synthetic stuff first. Not a big investment and it can't make the problem any worse
