I was just thinking the other day about how wicked the new HFV6 is going to be, untill i though about how crap it is also going to be because my ecotech V6 with extractors, 2.5 inch exhaust, K&N and CAI, probably won't be able to keep up with some old lady in her new shopping car...unless i invest in some major mods.
Het, Luckster, the HFV6 will have 190kW. So that's your target to beat. Anyway, tell me what you think of this?
VL: Last of its line, new engine (well, to Holden, anyway), six months later... everybody's asking "What the Hell is this Turbo business?"
VS: Last of its line, half-all-new engine, a year later, they drop a Supercharger onto the thing!
VZ: Last of its line, Completely all-new engine, do you think Holden will spring a surprise???
I remember reading in MOTOR magazine a few years back when Holden announced that they'll be building their own V6s from 2004. They said that there wont be a Supercharged version and that they might be thinking Turbo in future.
Cheers.
HELL!!! They should bring out a turbo-super charged 4.3L DOHC V6 special edition XU6....now that would be a surprise!!!!
Nope, HSV wont be making any more XU6s. Ever.
Holden will only have the HFV6 in 3.8-litre form.
The Generation IV Chevy V8 will be made in 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 sizes.
Holden will take the 6.0 and HSV will take the 6.2.
Cheers.
actually ive read that the hfv6 is coming out in 3.2, 3.5 and im not sure if they are going to do a 3.8 though
3.5L ive heard should be about 197kw roughly at the engine
What do you want to drink today?
Ride: VS Acclaim Series 2 + K&n Air Filter
I have total respect for anyone that attempts to build an engine with a turbo and a super charger on it!!!!
I've also heard that holden will be bring out 6.5L turbo v8 diesel engine sometime in the future.....i think i read it in a MOTOR magazine or something similar.
The 6.5-litre Turbo-Diesel V8 was in the CK Suburban (February 1998 - October 2000).
Maybe Holden might import it for the Adventra... but this is the first I've heard of it.
The HFV6 in the Commodore will definately be a 3.8. They started building them in November 2003. Holden will also build a 2.8-litre version for Saab and Alfa Romeo. Holden says the HFV6 can be anything from 2.8 to 3.8-litres in capacity. No more, no less.
I reckon the 2.8-litre HFV6 will be in the Torana.
Cheers.
PS: The 3.8-litre HFV6 will produce EXACTLY 190kW.
Cheers.
I just read in a mag that the HFV6 might be coming out in a 3.6L twin turbo...APPROXIMATELY 298kW...

OK, so Im ignorant. Whats a HF? Who makes it? What for? Where? When? How?? I need answers!

POSER!
HFV6 stands for High Feature V-configurated 6-cylinder.
It is Holden's all new V6 engine which entered production on the 4th of November 2003. It will be in the VZ range of Holdens.
Cheers.
Hey Pimpin, what mag is that?!
You've made a scoop!
Cheers.
It says in the latest Street Commodores (no 82) that there are rumors of a Buick AWD concept car powered by a twin turbo 3.6L V6, but it says that the specs dont say that it is a HFV6. It goes on to say that it puts out 298kw and 542Nm of torque...So this means that there is a twin turbo 3.6L V6 in development, but it cant be assumed that it is THE HFV6.
This just goes to show how many stories you can get from different sources.
Mrs and I were at the local Holden dealr about 3 months back, sussing out the 4wd Rodeo range. One of the reps was trying to push me towards the turbo des. , but I want petrol. Anyway, he started asking if I know much about engines etc., I said yes......
Thats when he tells me that Holden is going to be using the 1 motor for its 6 cyl range......ALL 6 cyl commies, rodeos, jackaroos would be running the same engines.
Time will tell I think.
As for being pissed about granny overtaking your modified ecotec, how do you think the owners of HSV stroker commies felt, when after taking delivery of there $70 thou plus pride and joy, there being dragged off left right and centre by gen3 ss commies, utes etc. !

i'm not so sure. holden are committed to meeting an FCAI target fuel consumption figure of 6.7 L/100 km by 2010. i don't see how they can do that with a 190 kW engine in the commodore.
i suspect they will offer low power/capacity versions at the exec level. have holden said anything about this?
Right, lets set the record in at least sort of the right direction.
The HFV6 is being made in every displacent you say, EXCEPT 3.8
The 3.8 will be produced in the near future exclusivley for Holden.
The 190kW figure is based on the performance of the 3.6 litre engine in the Catallac. No one knows the future power of the holden 3.8.
All the 6 cylinder engines will be known as HFV6, any turbo engine may be 3.6 litres, as yet Holden are being tight lipped.

i doubt whether commodores will run 190 kW engines as standard. more likely as an upper-spec engine.
most falcodores are sold to fleets and ford already copped loads of flak for the fuel consumption of the BA.
