so im currently over fkn cars at the moment but anyway. I need to buy a new radiator for my vs 5l auto. Im more then likely going to buy one off ebay, should i spen the little bit extra to get a radiator with alumiuim tanks instead of the plastic ones or is it a waiste of money?
Cheers guys
I hear that the alloy ones are supposed to last forever eg wont crack or split and some of them have a tripple core in them. They are made strong and the welding is professionally done-(weaved).But if you get one make sure its from a reputable seller not a chinese copy, get the aussie made ones, and with the plastic ones well they give you a 2yr warranty, but its funny how they brake down just after the warranty ends.
Well the one im looking at is a SSS auto one, its only 200 bucks and has a 2 year warrenty.
warrenty on those is a bastard as you have to prove the car hasnt come under electrolsis . copper core brass side tanks for the win.
oh really? its got the brass side tank radiator in it now, but it's all leaky and tired
Brass tanks r better as they can b repaired and bought back 2 brand new condition and can b done much cheaper ($110), pretty sure the alu types cant?

But arent that alu types better becuase they disperse the heat?
Grab a 3 ROW aluminum radiator.. My mate placed one in his Supercharged VR V8 and it ran sweet....Untill he hit a bridge.
For whats its worth, in a cars application there is no such thing as a 2 core, 3 core or 4 core radiator. The "core" is the space between the tanks and the core is 99% of the time mistaken for the "Rows".
Tank: The part found adjacent to one another either East/West or North/South (fill up point)
Rows: The channel(s) the water runs down and around.
Fins: The soft aluminum(?) that absorbs the waters heat which then dissipates from ambient temp or fans.
Core: The area where the Fins and Rows are housed.
If you use an aluminum radiator, make sure that the radiator is completely insulated from the cars body etc,and from the auto trans cooler lines,(if fittted),otherwise it will be eaten away by electrolysis ,which actually deposits the aluminum from the radiator onto the engine block.Using the proper mix of quality coolant also helps stop electrolysis occuring..

A decent plastic tank is better then a shitty cheap metal one.
Seriously don't worrie about it... For anything drastic to happen it would take many years....And unless you have spent thousands upon thousands on your engine then don't let it scare you.
Even then, I know guys with some serious engine work done to their cars and they run Aluminum rads.
Plastic tanks don't seem to last on the LS1's had four in the last 6yrs.
