hi after a family wagon, but will also be used for towing another car a few times a year the car and trailor being towed is a mustang and total weight for both is 2 tone.
what would people suggest, would love to stick to a v6? but not shore what it would tow like, has seen the advantras? or maybe a v8??
Don't take this the wrong way but commodores tow like crap, I have towed vans with mine for many years, if you want a good towing wagon get a falcon. There leaf sprung in the rear which means better load capabilities. But if you want a Holden get a v8 in the pre- vt era, the live axle holdens hold load better than the IRS rear end and you can get air bags like poly airs and you won't screw the insides of rear tyres every-time you tow.
my V6 drinks a bit when towing, and it has a fair bit of trouble with a 3 bike trailer. Not caravans or anything. If you're towing big get a good torquey V6 or a v8.
A v6 will tow it no probs as your only towing a few times a year but what ever you get you have to make sure you get heavy duty springs and shocks on the rear
Lol, towing an engine only on a trailer from newcastle to sydney, my mums BA Falcon wagon gearbox basically melted had no second gear or reverse by the time we got home.
if you dont mind your rear doors never closing again, then tow 2 tonne with a commodore. otherwise if you like you prefer your chassis NOT bending in the middle, pick something different.
I towed a Torana on a trailer about 50k's with my old VR v6 auto wagon. It did it fairly easily but the box was never the same after it. I don't tow more than a box trailer with my v6's now.
