You see them everywhere now.
You know, those bright white lights in a row either just under the headlights or down lower.
What are they?
LED's or Halogen or something else?
Anyone in the know?
Wouldn't mind making some for the ol VS.
Pretty sure you find they are strips of SMD lights
I am not so sure they are because they are bright in daylight and have like 5 or 6 individual lights in each side spaced apart somewhat.
They appear to be larger than surface mount LED's, but maybe have a reflector or something.
I notice them in Mercs, BMW's and even new upmarket Holdens among other euro cars.
Standard equipment in some of these models it seems.
If you want DRLs, Put in some foglights (factory ones) and wire them in so they turn on by a switch without having the parks on...
Get used to them as they are here to stay. Many European countries have them mandated in their own version of ADR's. Wouldn't surprise me to see it here too eventually.
Reaper
I reckon they look pretty cool all the same.
If I had some, they would only come on with the parkers and headlights with no option to have them on during the day unless the lights are on, so they would be somewhat subtle but useful to other drivers.
Maybe a ring of jumbo LED's down the bottom of the bumper on each side set back inside and potted in resin to waterproof.
There are a few new cars that have managed to fit these lights into the design of the car quite well, the Golf R being one of them.
I really am over seeing aftermarket LEDs (whatever they are) poorly installed on all sorts of cars. I cannot fathom how foglights are illegal to use whilst driving under normal conditions, yet every douchebag in a lowered hilux seems to get away with blinding people with their LED strips...
