V6 n/a with getrag question
Hey guys quick question,
I have a feeling my speedo is 5km/h out.. Just when cruising with people they say there Doing say 85 when I'm doing 90 so that's not good if I'm going past a speed camera
Now what I want to know is what is the Max speed you can get to in 1st gear and 2nd gear??
I get 55 in 1st and 95 in 2nd!? If I can find out what it should be I can be sure if my speedo is out or not

there are those speedo checks on highways but they arent really worth driving to just to check your speedo
if your speedo is out it will show the distance youve travelled to be wrong so you can reset your trip computer and travel a known distance and then if its more or less you know its out
only problem is finding a distance that is pretty exact otherwise it doesnt really work

some highways have the white lines marked across them. they are i think 400m apart which is for police to calculate the speed you are going.
but they are only on the country roads.
maybe try on a highway/freeway with a gps. it wont be 100% accurate but it will give you an indication.

Not really an accurate way to do it... At what revs are you achieving these speeds, what diff ratio, whats your tyre size/rolling circumference etc etc. I'd be first trying a gps on a long flat straight road and see the difference. This should give you a good starting point for comparison.

Are your wheels and tyre sizes stock? If they are bigger the speedo will read slower. Tech2 can make minor speedo adjustments. Like was said above, GPS is your best bet to check it.
sorry fellas what i meant to say is when im doing 85 there doing 90.. so what that means is im actually doing 5 km/h more then what the speedo is saying?
i have 17inch tyres with the correct spec tyres.. i also have the standard diff.. forget the ratio. i havent really played with the drive line at all.
but if i can find out what km/h should i hit the 5500rpm in 1st and 2nd i can find out if it is indeed out.
I'm pretty sure that my getrag also hits those speeds in first and second. Might be a bit lower in first but I'll check for you on my way home from work this arvo. And I believe the diff will be 3.08:1 if it's got a stock diff?
yeah thats the correct diff ratio... to early in the morning to think mate.
im hoping those are the speeds you hit mate... cause normally when i go through speed cameras i do the exact speed.. if not a couple of k's under which is not good if my speedo is out. now i go through doing 10 k's under lol
When you do go through these speed cameras doing 10k's under are people generally overtaking/going past you or are they sitting at the same speed
Also if you can get your hands on a GPS test it through that cause the one I have is dead on accurate with what my speedo reads... It would be more accurate at constant speeds on a highway so test it out on one if you can?

Not a problem at all mate. It's pretty weird this has popped up all of a sudden, or has it always been like this?
On the auto's from memory there is something called a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) I think it's called. It's physically on the box, so what I'm wondering is do the getrag's have something similar? If not what exactly does send the speed to the cluster on a getragdoes anyone know this???
yeah... i have only just noticed it.
and yes the getrags have a speed sensor in the box.. at the very back.

hmm i doubt its stuffed though.. cause from memory for the past year and a half i always got 55km/h in 1st and 95km/h in 2nd
Check for an error code if you haven't already mate, cause if there was something wrong with the VSS it would surely come up?

hmm i was thinking if my speedo was out people should get 100km/h out of secon... but your the other way lol
no warning lights have come up at all..
ok done abit of research and i come up with this.
if my tyre circumference is 24inch then the gears are as follows
1st 54km/h
2nd 94km/h
3rd 148km/h
4th 208km/h
5th 257km/h
so if that is correct its not my speedo thats out lol
Yea mate mine only got about 90km/h at 5,500 maybe a bit more... What rpm were you at?
5500-5600 rpm. I definitely get those figures I wrote... It's dead on with 5th lol jokes

I know mines out by 2kph (up, so illegally) from the 20's I got on.. Probably will get me in trouble since i sit 2-3kph above the limit.. just a habit for making up for the speedo usually being 2-3kph down
i remembered my 12volt socket doesnt work =/ but judging by the figures you blokes are getting its not out.. cause i was also under the impression 1st gear should get 60km/h
