Hi guys im new to the site and i have a question if anyone can help please. I have a 2005 holden commodore aclaim wagon auto when i travel up to 80 or 90 i get a very bad shutter like grinding noise i have taken it to two motor mechanics and they are not sure what it is and they have never heard that before does anybody have an idea
How many kilometers has the car done?
Grinding noise..? If that's exactly how it is then I'm not sure, but if it's similar it could be your wheel bearings, the shudder could be that and/or wheel alignment + balancing. I'm just taking a crack, but wheel bearing humm then they get pretty loud as they're about to let go.
Wheel bearings is a possibility. But I was thinking more along the lines of tyres. A VZ wagon came to work because of similar problems. It had really cheap tyres that were about half worn, and the road noise was really bad. Sounded like a grinding noise, but there wasn't a shudder. Thats why it probably could be the wheel bearings.
Im gunna agree with DDR, don't know about grinding. but i reckon wheel bearing.
Also i am unsure about the mechanics your going to.
Thanks for the info guys it might a wheel bearing what about the torque converter would it make noises like that
if there's no oil the trans might make those noises
^ as that was said, 80-90kph is when it probably hits 4th gear.. Might need that checked too.
