Hey all,
Really fed up with my crappy stock globes for all my night highway driving as cant see a roo until its practically ontop of you...so I thought the answer would be HID's!!
Firstly opinions on the cheap ones without ballasts? e.g Xenon Globe HID bulb Holden Commodore VT VX 1999-2003 | eBay
Was thinking possibly something like these cos them seem fairly cheap and alright..Commodore VT VX - H1 XENON HID KIT WHITE 6000K Hi Beam | eBay
anyways do you think those would be good and would they be difficult to install into the car?
Is it worth buying hi beam and lo beam or should I just go high?
Please help![]()
HIDs without projector headlights = fail.

anything without a ballast is not a HID, just a very white halogen globe.
I had HID's in my VS, I took them out and put in Philips +100% Upgrade Globes. Much better. You really don't get the right patten of light with HID's. They may be whiter and crisper, but without a good pattern your just going backwards.
LOL at the vid "if you dont have them set up properly and go around blinding everyone, HID stands for Hello, Im a dick head" hahaha!!!
Cheers for that lads, think i may have to invest in some of those phillips 100% globes by the sounds! What sort should I be looking at for the vt series 2, h4? I will probs only want to replace the high beam i suppose and not low beam wouldnt i?
me want HID's to but i dont no anything about them lol
its up to you mate, i dont see the problem with HID's in your hi beam, and Philips Xtreme in your low beam
Thats a fair idea there mate, just wondering though say i was only going to be able to afford the phillips globes for the next while where would i put them? Hi or main beam? If I put them on low beam one when i turned on hi beam wouldnt it be practically the same due to the globe being more powerful in low beam or is that not how it works![]()
my mate got done for having HIDs in his car without auto levelers...major defect = not fun...
I must agree with acarmody...HIDs in non projectors arent the greatest
I got these, Philips H4 12v Blue Vision BlueVision + 5w park globes | eBay , look great, cheap price. Good on a clear night, a bit worse in rain or in fog.
My VX on the left, with those bulbs, parents VY on the right with standard stuff. Not the best picture but you get the idea. Ignore my right headlight, its reflecting off that wood kids table, which is why its not looking white, but trust me the light is very white.

Ah righto cheers for that mate good to see the pic also. Ah righto I always just had the idea that there was 2 seperate globes for each side of the car, musta been wrong. Checking them out now brother!
I'm pretty sure mine are the same although I bought mine from
Autobarn...they go great![]()
I was going to get them from Autobarn from down the road, but it was like $20 more expensive, and I didn't need them immediately, since I had already picked up a $5 cheapo replacement from the servo to get me home.
And yeah they are a great bulb, with the headlights properly adjusted they light up a pretty decent amount of road.

New Ver. +100% H4 Philips X-treme xtreme Vision Bulbs | eBay
These are the ones you want. Not the 4000k. I have had my share of 4000+ globes, they dont light up the road well. They just make reflections look better.
Im running these philips in mine. They dont make a H3 hi beam, so im using the NARVA equivalent Narva Blue Power H3 Headlight/Fog Light Bulbs 3750K | eBay
This thread is amazing help thanks loads mate. So been doing some reading seems that the Hi beam in a VT is an H1 so should be able to buy the 100% for both globes! First though seeing I wont be getting paid till a fair while if i replace just the low beam globes will hi beam still be much brighter? cant really imagine it seeing they will be hella brighter globes in there..
New Ver. +100% H1 Philips X-treme xtreme Vision Bulbs | eBay
Well theres the philips for you man
If you get low beams for now, you'll notice an improvement on the LOW beam, not sure if you'll notice any better with hi beam, but it may be slightly better.
And definately get them through ebay, at autobarn expect to pay around $80+ a set.
I've done the same. I kept the HID in the high beam, but switched from the 10000k/35w setup I was sold to 5000k/55w. High beam is awesome but you really have to keep other people in mind and dip real early. The weird light pattern doesn't seem to happen on the high beam, and they beat the crap out of the 8" Cibies on my Cruiser..
The H4s are now 5000k globes, the light pattern is weird with the HIDs and I had to adjust them too much away from where I wanted them to be to avoid blinding other people. Even so, they were a huge improvement on the original lights.
So my final result, having played with the VS lights for months.. Modern crystal style lights, glass lenses.. $150 H4 5000k hi/lo beam $70 HID 5000k/55w hi beam $140 Very happy with this final combo, lights are adjusted normally, I have no problems with the law or other motorists and my lights are freaking awesome.
