I am having dramas with my fuel , i thought i had a bad miss in my car but i was actully low on fuel - i have a 1994 vr statesman and it said on dash i had 63km remaining yet my fuel guage was just above red so i can only assume the computer is out- so how do i fix this? is it as simple as a fuse or what can be done, all other electrics work on dash .
It can depend on where exactly on the fuel gauge the car runs out of fuel..My VS's (level 2 dash) fuel gauge can go down until its just about under the red empty line before it actually runs out of fuel. Also, theres a way of adjusting the trip computer calibration to compensate for small calibration errors like yours is having with the remaining fuel readings....I know that the default setting is 625,but it can be adjusted anywhere from 497 to 752.Im not 100% sure how you go about doing this,I know that you have to push certain buttons on the trip computer to access it.

To open the calibration mode, with the ignition on or car running, press and release both the up and down arrow (on the trip computer) at the same time.
correction it's actually the "set" button, ignition on, press hold for a sec, then change the reading down the amount of km's you believe it is out.
Oh sorry, he has a VR Statesman, I was thinking of my VS Berlina. My mistake.
if that don't work maybe your fuel pickup might be bent slightly
The trip computer has 3 default settings you can change 625 for fuel flow, this = the amount of fuel the car uses and should match the lt put into the car and what the trip computer says has been used. (assume you rest each fill) The distance default is 625 and that one's easy = how many kms travelled and it will be out if you have changed your wheel size from standard. And the third is fuel in the tank. Suggest filling the tank and on level ground (not the side of the road) set to your tanks size.
The calibration process suggests 5 tank fills and test the numbers from the trip computer each time and make any minor adjustments.
I took the time to do this on my VN V8 and have got it spot on (80lt tank in sedan).
