Getting my vx roadworthied, so far I've spent $500 on this roadworthy and now I've been told I need to spend another $1000 to fix the ticking noise coming from the engine in order for the car to be roadworthy.
Is this correct or am I being taken for a ride? From what I've seen on the VicRoads website it's bull**** but I just wanna make sure, coz I'm no mechanic!
Any help is much appreciated!
Taken for a ride would be...a nice way to put it. Find a new person to do the RWC. Really...the only time they listen to the car is moving it from where its parked to the hoist (atleast thats how its worked when Ive had one done).
ThanksThe issue isn't that I don't wanna fix it, it's that I wanna be 100% sure that is the problem before I fix it, and I needa hand the RWC into VicRoads before the car becomes unregistered!
Looks like I'll be having a nice chat to my mechanic tomorrow.....
or try taking off the oil cap and listen you will know if it is the lifters also check to see if there is oil in it stupid i know but it can happen lol.
Just throw some Nulon Lifter Noise stuff in it or more oil if it needs.
You live in Victoria, its ####ing cold at the moment. Lifters are going to make some noise if the car is cold when he takes a look.
I just dont see how lifter noise is a roadworthy condition though.
Tried to pm you mizzvr but inbox is full. I can help you out.

Thanks heaps guys!
I've replaced 4 tyres, bushes, shocks, drive belt, link pins etc...
Get it inspected elsewhere, it's a commodore
Thanks heaps to everyone for your input! I shouldn't have to pay the $120 for the RWC assessment should I?
+1 for putting some nulon "stop being a noisy carnt of an engine" in.
Yeah go somewhere else man lol what a knob.
Usually from $88 - $110ish

you will only have pay again if you go somewhere else or it has gone past the 28 day period.
I haven't paid the $120 yet. The car was driving me nuts so I told the guy to fix the stuff that he found when he did the check. As far as I'm concerned he hasn't done a rwc check if he's telling me stuff like this.
If the ticking noise is not lifters but rather an exhaust leak, then yes it is a roadworthy requirement.
However, $1000 to fix an exhaust leak is a rort lol.
Depending on the car, $1000 to replace lifters may be plausable.
RWC is a basic check of operational, safety and structural components. Anything mechanical does not fall under the roadworthiness scheme!
