hi just put new brake rotors and pads all round on the girlfriends pulsar (yes she helped!!)
i know how to bed in new pads but is there anything special you have to do to bed in new rotors ? its sitting in the driveway waiting! thank you.
Pretty much the same deal i was told, no unnecessary heavy braking, sustained use or high speed to a complete standstill stops. Unless of course in an emergency.
i was told the opposite lol, and its always worked.
bring the car up to 60kms, and brake HARD (not lock up, but hard. obviously do this on a quiet road lol). Come to just before a stop, and speed back up again, and repeat this 4-5 times.
haha well this is awkward, 2 completely opposite responses. ive always done the 40 then slow braking then 40 then slow braking as not to cook the new ones. ill just stick with this, thank you both.
On a road car i dont think it makes a great deal of difference, i have a mate who from stop 1 after changing rotors did nothing but hard stops lock ups ect, his are still fine and thats over 2 yrs ago now. I drove my Vk normally with new rotors and i havent had a problem either so i wouldnt worry about it.
You want medium braking, but more important, consistent braking. The idea of either bedding in pads or rotors, is to transfer an even layer of pad material to the rotor, and NOTHING to do with putting excessive heat, or burning off resin etc... It's really hard to transfer an even layer if you're braking hard, so 80-20km/hr medium braking a few times, with no sudden stopping will be sufficient.

Sick of paying too much for high performance brake pads? Want high performance and cold bite with low rotor wear?
