    Default New Victorian Roadworthy Laws

Has anyone else heard about the new RWC laws coming into Vic on this Sunday?

spoke to my mechanic today and he confirmed this is happening for real

1, All cars have to have pictures taken on them showing all the things wrong with them
and the photos to be submitted to vicroads to keep on record

2, The cost is going up to $180

3 They now have to test your tint %

and apparently if you get done for the same amount of things when issued a defect eg to low , the cars rego can be instantly lost etc

This is going to be big changes. Eng # & Vin # need to be photographed, along with pics of wheels off, brakes, suspension exhaust & any items knocked back. All need to have time & dates on pics along with pick of RWC & be in sequence. These need to be put in a file for reference.

This will put an end to any dodgy RWC that still may happen.

They will also be charged at an hourly rate now

    Cheers

As at the 1st of July this year all roadie testers have had to do a structual awareness course, thats a lazy grand for each mechanic doing the course, if you wanna do gas, then thats another grand for the extra course. We now have to have a didgital camera & window tint meter as part of our required testing equipment, as yet we havent been told what we have to photograph but you dont have to think really hard to work it out.... Vic roads are culling testers and making it harder and harder to maintain a licence, Prices of roadies will go up and getting one will become harder,

With the way its going you will be charged an hourly rate for the test, the older & shitter the car, the more thats wrong, the more it will cost for the test !!! , The more hops vic roads make us jump thru the less likley your freindly mechanic is gunna stick his neck out to keep your shitter on the road Vic roads show testers no mercy for thing that arn't right.
    Hmm........

They also do a brake test.... Drive the car between 30-35km/h then hit the brakes and a machine on the passenger seat prints out the pass/fail results.

This is all true. My boss just very recently got his RWC licence. We have the tint meter and he had to do the structural awareness coarse. He's still to do the LPG coarse, so he can only do petrol powered cars at the moment.

I totally agree with RWC's being charged out at an hourly rate, for instance you could get a near new VE that could only take half an hour to check over, but you could also get a dirty old shitter that could take an hour and a half to check (including writing down all the defects and filling out the paperwork) so why should they all be charged the same rate?

This will do 2 things, it will stamp out the dodgy roadies and also get a lot of shitters off the road that probably shouldn't be on the road to start with.

Well the place I work only started doing it about 2 weeks ago, and they have done roadworthys since they first opened.

Must have been only 2 weeks ago that they got caught out. They must have had there RWC licence for quiet some time. My dad got his RWC licence about 8 years ago and he had to have a brake tester to get his licence.

It used to be quiet common for testers to share a brake tester (they don't come cheap) but Vic roads got onto this. Now every tester has to have a brake tester to get a licence.

Why? It's not my problem if they lose their roadworthy licence for not following the rules. I'm not even qualified to do roadworthy checks so it wont affect me at all.

this will only be true if they start pulling over the shitters instead of mainly pulling up p-plates. I am yet to see a copper with a shitbox pulled over.

But I can see this being good and painful at the same time.

This is true, but on the flipside it will stop people getting shitters registered via dodgy roadies.

WTF? How does this affect Joe Blow getting an RWC? The same defects will be recorded regardless of the new rules...

It will be harder on testers, not the people presenting the car for RWC.

Oh well, thats the only thing they wern't doing. Now they purchased the brake tester, tint tester, headlight aimer, and also bought a new digital camera yesterday.

They have always had a brake fluid tester and we test the fluid on services as well. And the headlight aimer has been there for years.

I wonder if this will affect trade-in prices as dealers are going to have the same issues getting RWC to put trade-ins on the lot. Probably get less for our trade-ins than now.

If you get someone that buys a car with put a rwc and has no idea about it then it cost thousands to get to road worth condition. Not everyone can afford new cars and done family's struggle to feed kids and now if your got some wanker rwc guy that has no work for the day and has to charge by the hour, he will say that took 3 hours when it's a 1 hours job.. Sorry kids you don't eat this week.. It needs to be a flat rate!

So, they didn't have a brake tester, but they had a brake fluid tester that isn't required to do roadies? Hmmm ok.

Caveat emptor mate. That's why you don't buy a car without RWC or atleast getting it checked out first.

As for the cost, it's never been a flat rate. There is no set rate for an RWC inspection, it's all up to the tester how much he charges for the inspection.
