Has anyone else heard about the new RWC laws coming into Vic on this Sunday?
spoke to my mechanic today and he confirmed this is happening for real
1, All cars have to have pictures taken on them showing all the things wrong with them
and the photos to be submitted to vicroads to keep on record
2, The cost is going up to $180
3 They now have to test your tint %
and apparently if you get done for the same amount of things when issued a defect eg to low , the cars rego can be instantly lost etc
Yeah, they were talking about it on the radio on the way home tonight. Not sure what to make of it just yet.

This will put an end to any dodgy RWC that still may happen.
They will also be charged at an hourly rate now
Cheers

Vic roads are culling testers and making it harder and harder to maintain a licence, Prices of roadies will go up and getting one will become harder,
With the way its going you will be charged an hourly rate for the test, the older & shitter the car, the more thats wrong, the more it will cost for the test !!! , The more hops vic roads make us jump thru the less likley your freindly mechanic is gunna stick his neck out to keep your shitter on the road Vic roads show testers no mercy for thing that arn't right.

This is all true. My boss just very recently got his RWC licence. We have the tint meter and he had to do the structural awareness coarse. He's still to do the LPG coarse, so he can only do petrol powered cars at the moment.
I totally agree with RWC's being charged out at an hourly rate, for instance you could get a near new VE that could only take half an hour to check over, but you could also get a dirty old shitter that could take an hour and a half to check (including writing down all the defects and filling out the paperwork) so why should they all be charged the same rate?
This will do 2 things, it will stamp out the dodgy roadies and also get a lot of shitters off the road that probably shouldn't be on the road to start with.
Must have been only 2 weeks ago that they got caught out. They must have had there RWC licence for quiet some time. My dad got his RWC licence about 8 years ago and he had to have a brake tester to get his licence.
It used to be quiet common for testers to share a brake tester (they don't come cheap) but Vic roads got onto this. Now every tester has to have a brake tester to get a licence.
its hard enough to put a good feed on the table as it is with all these taxes and revenue raising......now this
its good that a lot of shitty cars will get of the road by doing something like this but but yer just so much to do just to get a RWC
Oh well, thats the only thing they wern't doing. Now they purchased the brake tester, tint tester, headlight aimer, and also bought a new digital camera yesterday.
They have always had a brake fluid tester and we test the fluid on services as well. And the headlight aimer has been there for years.
I wonder if this will affect trade-in prices as dealers are going to have the same issues getting RWC to put trade-ins on the lot. Probably get less for our trade-ins than now.
If you get someone that buys a car with put a rwc and has no idea about it then it cost thousands to get to road worth condition. Not everyone can afford new cars and done family's struggle to feed kids and now if your got some wanker rwc guy that has no work for the day and has to charge by the hour, he will say that took 3 hours when it's a 1 hours job.. Sorry kids you don't eat this week.. It needs to be a flat rate!
