Hey Guys,
I was blurring my license plate in a photo today when I thought "what's the use of doing this?"
Withstanding the fact that somebody can just walk up to my car on a street & take a pic of it, what's the point of blurring license plates in a photo?
There's a difference in u posting a pic of ur car telling us it's urs, as a posed to some posting a pic of a car, with no owner attached. Someone may dislike u or something u say, they can identify u fairly easily.
^ That includes coppers. See I'm someone who doesn't really hate anyone, and I don't have much trouble with people, so IDC about my plate being shown. People notice me and have a chat it's good.
Meh I used to blur my plates for the copper reason. But... theres tons of photos of my car floating about from other people on cruises etc and I really cant be stuffed anymore.
my plates i see as part of my car, so i dont blur them.
I don't bother blurring my plates out either
but I think the reason people do it, is because there are car thieves who scour car forums looking for cars in their area worth knocking off. If they see your car with all the photos of the engine bay, interior etc and a list of mods, it might help them decide as to whether they want to take it off your hands should they see it in a carpark somewhere.
I was reading a story in a 4wd mag that a guy got defected after a photo shoot had taken place and it was published.
Turns out a greenie noticed a few action pics of him being slightly off track and running into the bush he got a bit upset and had a friend who was either a cop or worked at the RTA (cant remember) and located his car and defected him when the car was sitting in his works carpark. I'll try to and dig it up, it was a good read. So now they have covers on the plates or they swirl them out. But before I read the article I asked myself the same question, but put it down to people being paranoid about someone locating their car to steal it....
Also they could replicate your plates and put them on their own car, thus not having to pay rego. Would be pretty gay if they got defected using your plates hey.
Don't know about in oz. But in nz if you run the vir on a plate. As if you were thinking of buying the car. It tells you the owners home address. So some scumbag could troll online find something they like then pay $10 and find out where it's parked most nights. I sometimes blur mine often cbf though.
Gutted for the 4wd guy. That's just revenue gathering
