engine noise diagnosis help!!

im experiencing what sounds like a whining bearing noise from my motor, i changed the tensioner pulley wheel as i had a similar noise from my VR but it didnt fix it this time...

what im wondering is would it cause any harm to start my motor without the belt on (only for a very short time) to maybe rule out any of the other pulley wheels? and any other ideas would be appreciated

You'll be right to start the motor with no belt on to check if the noise is gone. Just don't run it for too long as you'll have no water pump with the belt off.

thanks. i changed the idler pulleys and its all sweet now and quiet as can be!
