    Default Water marks on paintwork....

    Ok, as the title says.

I wash my car weekly, wax it with Meguiar's Gold class every three months.
    I live near the ocean.
After washing the car yesterday I noticed while the car was in the garage, under the fluro light that there are water drop marks in the paint, mainly on the bonnet.
So, I took to an area of the bonnet with Meguiar's Scratch X and then waxed the section afterwards. Anyway, this did not remove these marks at all.
What's the secret to removing water marks from paintwork? I've read plenty about this problem on glass, but not on paint.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'

I'd rather not cut, as it would remove clear coat.

Scratch X should be able to remove water spots that are mineral deposits, but try Autoglym Super Resin Polish anyway. SRP is not very abrasive and is a chemical paint cleaner.

If that doesn't work, then your water spots will be where the clear coat has been etched by stagnant water. The only way to fix is to cut the clear coat.

If what you have is etching, you'd have to cut your clearcoat down to the level of the dotted line before they disappear. Water etching usually isn't very deep, don't panic!

Wax should protect the paint from etching.

I think it is in the clear coat.

So I may have to use a soft cutting compound, eh?

Elbow grease will be needed to remove them.

When washing your car try not to wash it in the sun. When it's done a hard hit with fresh water from the hose then chamois it off all over fast to dry it off.

as mentioned above abrasive polish is the way to get them out. dont be afraid to remove some clear coat as the average commy has 120-160 microns of paint from bare metal to to of the finish with around 40 microns being clear coat. to do a ful paint correction by machine the most i have removed is 8 microns and that is the most extreme case with the average being about 3-4 microns. doing it by hand will remove bugger all paint and should see the etching go.

ps. srp only has micro abrasives and the cleaners arent stong enough to remove etched marks and scratch x is good for bugger all bar hiding paint defects
