Okay so I've had two tridon thermostats fail on me both in within about 2 months. On separate cars ofcourae . Which brand will last longer and is a quality one? I'm sick of my car and it's overheating poblems, car is a vs 5L if that makes a difference
Ps sorry if there is bad spelling my computer isn't working and I'm on my iPhone.
I was thinking of going to holden for one ?
How do you know your thermostat is failing and causing your car to overheat, have you checked other possible components in your cooling system before replacing your thermostat. I think tridon make great thermostats.
i bought a lower temp 82 degree one that is fully open at 82 degrees (i was shocked)
and its been good no problems in twelve months hang on i will go check the brand....
motorad makes the product sold by...mace engineering my car is vt v6 but they told me they can fit to order
just pm there store on ebay i think ther eon here too..... actually
thAts the one i bought still havent bought anything from mace thats failed......

Well what else could it be? And the other car i talked about had the thermostat replaced again and it was fine after that. So im assuming its the thermostat again. Radiator is brand new, and i completly flushed the system when i put the radiator and thermostat in. And im not using shit coolant either.
Well i called up 3places just then
Repco- Dayco for $16
Autopro- Tirdon for $16
Holden/rare spares- $14 unsure of brand whatever holden uses apparntly, looks like im going through them
That causes my car to go from stone cold to on the h in a 7 minute drive?
yep .
edit* also forgot to add:
leaky water pump seal
water pump blades worn
Is the engine actually overheating, or are you just going off what the guage says? Could be a faulty coolant temp sender causing the guage to give a false reading...
Have you removed the thermostat and placed it in boiling water to test if it's still opening?
Need a part number? PM me.

Im going to sound like a dick and im embarrased but ill own up to it. ari i wasnt doubting you i know you no your shit. There was no water in the radiator :S and yes the engine was getting really hot. I should have checked but i just looked at the overflow and it was on max so i pressumed it had plenty of coolant. But i poored coolant into the radiator this afternoon and it swallowed nearly 7 litres. Doesnt get hot anymore :P So i have no idea how come it didnt suck the water out of the overflow when the radiator was empty. it has me confused :P
mightve been a lock in the system. what you wanna do now is look for a small leak somewhere. just discolouration around hose fittings etc. water is going somewhere and you will need to find out where.
but yeah, glad you got it sussed, and for free too!!!![]()
The 5l's dont have any bleed screws, and im told it will self purge. And there is no leaks underneath, and the core doesnt appear to be leaking in the cabin so i have no ideaill just keep an eye on it and see how i go. cheers
5 liters have a horrible habbit of leaking out of the water pump seal. the only way to see is to really get your head up under the water pump.
it was a bugger to find that pic in my photobucket accountbloody capped internet.
anyway, that will will mean you lose just enough coolant pressure to cause you problems and its hidden enough to keep you scrathing your head for AGES. i have found though, that the pump does make a pretty distinctive noise once its ####ed, cos water goes through the bearings. but i cant really describe it via text online![]()
Champion! Ill stick my head under and have a look,.
I've had a similar issue with my 5 lt. Tonight I pulled up and while hot I grabbed the fan blades ( Engine off) and gave it a wobble and wooo the shaft moved from side to side. On further tests, I've discovered the Fan clutch is not engaging either.....Hence getting to warm for my liking. So new water pump and fan clutch going on Sunday :-( I did all my cooling system last year, replaced radiator, all hoses thermostat & housing, heater tap.... everything. But if ur fan clutch is gone it will stuff the pump aparently.
