Can you get a long screwdriver in against the reinforced rib at the mounting end? If you can, use the screwdriver as a drift at an angle and hit it to shock the filter free.

There is an oil filter tool you can buy from bursons/autobarn for about $30 It's a circular oil filter tool that goes on the end of a 3/8 ratchet. Handy as it grips the whole bottom of the filter, and you get the extra leverage off the ratchet

Ive taken a liking to the strap with a 1/2" drive on the end, yet to find a filter too tight, mine was only $20 and i use it nearly every day, dont know how it would go on a mangled mess though.

Try piercing it with a screwdriver then turning the pushing (or pulling) the screwdrive to loosen it
    It comes easier when piercced

If you read his first post you will see he has tried that.

    Fuzzy

What happened when you tried doing what I suggested? The idea is to actually force the filter free by hammering it undone in tiny increments until the tension is released. That sort of impact should remove any stubborn filter.

Do like Calaber says. You don't pierce the filter at all, just tap the lip where it mates the engine until the long screwdriver will bite, keep going around, tapping gently, yet firmly with a hammer. It'll come off that way.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'

will work fine we get them stuck in a big way on trucks and we just put a big breaker bar on and keep turning, it crushes it a lot but eventually it will come.

hehehe, that would have been a great conversation,
" hello i need to see a mechanic please "
Reception " what seems to be the problem?"
Fuzzy " well um my oil filter is stuck "
    Reception " what's it stuck to ? "

Fuzzy, what technique did the mechanic use, to earn his $100 ?
I realize that he would have had to come to you, as the car would't be driveable, so $100 isn't so bad.
