hey guys, not too sure if this is the in the right forum but here goes
i seen this ute on carsales for sale and didnt get a chance to text the guy but i did take some photos
(off my phone so shitty photos)
was just wondering if you guys know what sort of bonnet it is
any help would be great, thanks in advance
VE Commodore G8 Pontiac / GTO style bonnet | eBay
there you go...
thankyou man
i might be blind but it looks like the bonnet has holes on both sides, up near the windscreen
you guys see that too?
nar man i'm pretty sure they're just at the front
i say its a custom jobbie based of the G8 bonnet.. look at the bonnet line, on a normal g8 bonnet it tapers to almost nothing.. the black one doesnt, and pretty sure those are air vents at the back on the bonnet line.
also the overall look around the vents looks raised, normal g8 bonnets follow the same lines as a ve, just with scoops
its from savage fibreglass, they dont do too bad of a job, my monaro style bonnet on my vt looks great
okay thanks for clearing that up guys
fairly sure its Fabtecs Ve street legal bonnet its fiber glass over an original steel bonnet and those are vents up near the windscreen
not sure about that Ari.. i know blitz are ADR compliant and I wouldnt think they have crashed tested too many cars either. Maybe theres an alternative process? Engineering reports or something?
I'm going to contact Mike Savage in the next few days, if he now has ADR compliance he might be able to send me a sticker lol
Commo, what do you mean about the insurance?
i dont know, he might have, its a growing business. And as i said "correct me if i'm wrong", so in saying that, im basically telling you that i havn't done my research on it, although i have purchased one of these bonnets, and i THINK that they may be ADR compliant.
I am happy to be corrected by someone who has done the research.
as far as i know, ADR 69 (frontal occupant protection) is covered with a series of crash tests. because the bonnet is part of the frontal crumple zones, then itll need to pass a series of crashes to ensure that no part projects out and threatens the occupants (i.e. its not gonna come off and cut your head off, or one of the skeletal bars punches through your face)
all cars as of the 1st of july 1995 need to comply with ADR 69. if they have found a way around that, then thats pretty cool. i just have my doubts.5. REQUIREMENTS
5.1. Impact Velocity
The vehicle must be impacted at 48 km/h, into a fixed collision barrier that is perpendicular to the line of travel of the vehicle.
remember guys there is a difference between ADR compliant and ADR approved.
just cause its compliant doesnt mean it has been approved and is legal to use, its just built within the rules
It's difficult to know how a fibreglass bonnet could be ADR compliant on a modern car, because of the many considerations that apply to car design these days. The bonnet not only has to be able to assist in absorbing impact from certain speeds to protect passengers, as Ari pointed out. It also has to reduce the likelihood of injury to pedestrians. Dunno how you can achieve all that in a rigid fibreglass moulding.
Older cars (pre '95) where the ADR didn't apply might be ok, but as Ari has pointed out, since then the safety of the bonnet design and strength comes into serious consideration
ok, so i did the research on savage fibreglass, and this makes me believe that they are not ADR approved:
