Default i want to hear nicer note from my v6 3.8l VY Calais.. recommend an exhaust system pls

so i want to get a sporty note from my vy calais which has a stock exhaust system..
its only a 3.8l and very good on fuel, i wan to hear ideas/tips on exhaust systems and how they affect fuel economy..

    1) does having extractos (pacemaker/lukey) + 2 1/2 inch catback (redback/manta/lukey/pacemaker) screw it up?

    2) whats better pacemaker/lukey extractors? and redback/manta/lukey/pacey catback? and why??

    3) what will it sound like/how much fuel will it spend if i had extractors + keep stock (narrow) catback but swap the muffler with a smaller one or a hotdog to get a louder note?

im not an idiot ive got v8s/v6 twin turbos.. this is my family car.. i dont want a v8 rumble, i just want a little sporty feel so dont troll..

    thanks in advance

My brothers got the Pacemaker Extractors + Some 2.5' Catback on his VX Berlina, V6.. Sounds nice.. You would be confused if it was a V8 or V6.. Becomes quiet when cruising at 100.. He can also get 8l/per 100k with that setup..

Now Ive only got the Lukey Catback system on my VR, Also sounds nice, Doesnt drone..

I'm not sure with the differences between the brands. but I dont think you should get genie extractors.. VS has the same catback as me.. and genie extractors and just sounds awful imo..

    Just my 2 cents. :\

whatever you do, make sure you put a resonator on the back. V6's in particular drone terrible without one.
There are some good aftermarket resonators that minimise the drone, yet help give the exhaust a more rounded, deeper note

i got pacemaker extractors, twin high flow cats and a 2.5in catback and it dropped feul consumption from about 9.5L/100km to 8.2L/100km... cost $1700 fitted and sounds decent for the ecotec

everyone seems to think changeing there exhaust changes fuel economy for the worse, i dont know where that came from, if anything ive heard it make fuel economy a little better, the only reason it would use more fuel is because once you get it done it sounds better so you would be planting your foot alot more haha

mate i have hurricane extractors > hi flow cat > 2.5" > centre hotdog > rear 'supressor' . I spoke to the exhaust blokes and they agree it is the best way to get the V6 commos sounding nice and sporty with a little bit of loud when you need it highly recommended.

Most places recommend centre muffler adn thats just standard, but if you ask the exhaust shops what sounds best and makes it sound more full and grumbly is to get the muffler at the rear. Took until the VE for holden to start getting wise

Pacemaker Extractors into 2 1/2 inch with hotdog + rear resi. Doesn't drone and doesn't sound like every other 6. Mind you, it's still a 6 though..

My exhaust was custom welded, so it's nothing off the shelf besides the extractors.

    I should get hi-flow cats...

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or if you're just stupid.

I use to run redback extractors, a manta cat and a lukey 2.5" with a mid muffler and rear muffler. Sounded great in the car, sounded like arse when you were on the side of the road as it drove past.

Depends what sound you're going for. Pace's are a bit more deeper noted to the hurricanes, but that because said, it depends on the exhaust aswell. You could just take the rear resi off and it'd be shit loud, but that's exactly what it is - shit and loud.

Hurricane is better money spent. Pacies cost $200 more and no matter how you try unless you're doing serious mods can you justify that cost for little/no gains. (y)

Me personally i don't stray from pacemakers but thats just my opinion. Go with the hurricane to save the wallet, keep the standard cats or one's of a similar nature and single 2.5inch cat back with both resonator and silencer. That's exactly the same system i ran on my old wagon and it had a very nice note and didn't drone. Also if your looking for a bit of extra fuel economy put a mace engineering cold air intake on it. If you have the spare money to spend its a worthwhile mod to save the wallet in the long run
    Hope this helps
