Hey guys
Looking into buying myself new set of wheels. Currently running on 16s and they have a nice smooth drive but managed to smash one the other night. So instead of a new wheel im just getting a whole new set.
I prefer the 18s just for the looks but i know it gets bumpy so still not sure.
Just looking for the pros and cons of 17s or 18s just which way to go.
If ur gonna talk about 20s then dont, if ur gonna talk about 18s and youve never actually owned some then dnt say anything. Would like to hear from people who use these wheels daily and what the feel like to drive on a daily basis
The wheels i like are the advanti choppers in gunmetal.

been driving around on 18's for years and they ride beautiful with normal aftermarket spring, but the you use the extra heavy duty ride ride shit. Never had a problem with my 18's and even 19's on king spring, but had a front end with peddar extra heavy duty spring and it even rode sh*t on the 15's
Dont dick around, get 19's FTW

I'd go 18's again. They look alright and aren't too harsh. But they will be harsher than 16's, although how much exactly depends a lot on your suspension set up. I run 18's with Kings Low's so the ride is fairly firm, but still practical enough to drive everyday even though some of the roads around here are rather average. Your best bet would be to find someone with the same model car with the rims on and go for a drive to see how it feels to you.
I would but no one i know has a VY or VZ with 18s. Im just running the stock suspension for now I can go any lower since my driveway is so steep and im not a fan of leaving my car on the road.
Roads here in adelaide are just shit, full of bumps and potholes. Im just worried ill hit a pothole and blow the tyre

Also what is a machined faced wheel?

I think with stock suspension it shouldn't be too bad really. You'd have to hit a pretty damn big hole, and hard, to blow a tyre. Probably more likely to break a rim first. And a machined face...not sure, but if you mean a machined lip it's just like a flat lip around the outside of the rim.
I think if you have 16 from factory you are only allowed to go 2 more inches more so 18s.
18 are plenty big for a vy. Try and get your hands on some VZ SS RIMS.
i have 18s on my vy and when i had stock suspension in it the ride was fine, not to bumpy and i havent had any problems with potholes
18's ride nice if you have stock FE2. 19's are a bit harsh and 20's re ridiculous.
I have 20"s on my ute, not that bad, but i do scrape at the KFC drive through. And of course tires cost more than my ute.

give everything a spray with wd40 wheels brakes that should fix the squeaks
I've used 14-20" wheels on a commodore. I personally would not go any bigger than 18", I have 19x8.5" with 245/35 tyres and the ride is a lot worse than on 18's.. I didn't notice a massive difference from 17" - 18", but a huge difference from 18" - 19"

What suspension do you have?
On my vs with sl kings 18s were great, ride wasn't bouncy just firm
On my vy with fe2 the 18s are a quite harsh especially on rough roads.
On my missus e46 the 18s are quite soft, the difference is barely noticeable between those and 17s or even the factory 15s
These were all with 235/40/18s
if you go 18'' without lowering ur cars gonna look bit funny , as i went on my vy from 15 to 18 and looked funny untill i got it lowered on kings low springs and pedders low shocks ,
the ride is not bad
I run 235/40/18 and yes when u cross a railtrack you have to go slow otherewise everythng in my car shakes. i try to be very carefull as if you seed thru bumps u end up rattling interior in ur car .
I'll agree with FE2 and 235/40/R18.
Harsh, but I like a rough and tight ride![]()
I had 18's, not as nice as 15's but they're still smooth.
That being said, my 20's are that much worse.
OK mate you wont hit a pot hole and pop your tyre unless if a huge pot hole, 18's ride perfectly smooth and the only resson it's Harsh with king spring is because it called sports surspension and sports surspension rides harsh on 15's too it because the spring are stiffer
Machine faced wheel are f**king ugly thats what it means
they changed the law there's no state in Australia now that use the 2 inch rule, it is no that you can't exceed your overall maxium diametre but more then 15mm, so you can legally run 20's on all commodore now with the corect tyre's
having tried both I have gone back to the 17" purely for the ride factor. Now running 235/45r17 front and 275/40r17 rears and find that with the king springs and kyb shockers the handling and grip is as good as if not better than the 18's
I'm on 19s everyday and the ride is fine. didnt notice much differnce goin from the stock 17s to 19s. Id go 19s if possible mate
