My Ford courier work ute crapped itself on the way home yesterday, head gasket or head crack or something...serious water usage, like stand there with a hose topping it up and watch it come out the exhaust deal....
Was thinking about fixing it/ rebuilding it...
Then i started looking around at other utes i could get for a few thousand found a VG series II with 210,000k's 5sp manual has 17's on it (meh work car...). Im gonna be looking at it about an hour or two from now, and if it is in as good condition as the bloke reckons i'll probably be driving it home tonight, coz I REALLY need to be able to get to work tomorrow (self employd).
Anyone got some advice on what i should particularly look at/for? I've been around the block as far as owning/buying cars and stuff goes...but i have a nasty habit of getting tunnel vision when i've got money in my wallet and im looking at a car i want.
I really should go with a checklist of what I should look at...Any ideas?
Its going to be a work car, so body condition isn't paramount, but I dont want it to look like a clapped out dunga either.
At the end of the day my decision to get into a commodore ute work car is based on the fact that for the last 10 years i've been in vn-vr-vs commodores, i know my way around them...And I have a VS SS sitting in the backyard at home...So in like worst case no money car broken scenario's i can probably rape my SS for parts/sensors/dumblittleshitthatbreaks.
The ute doesn't need to be perfect, its listed for 3300, i'll take 3000 with me. So long as it drives reasonably well, the motor sounds reasonable with no major leaks or anything i'll probably take it...Just wanna be on the lookout for 'dodgy patchup fixits'... You know what I mean...banana skins in the diff and dumb stuff like that...people trying to get rid of a lemon rather than an honest car...Anything i should look out for?
What dodge ups have ya'll done to get rid of a car to unsuspecting twerp?
Bought it =P Wasn't as good as i would have liked but i didn't pay as much as he would have liked... Little bit of work to do to it but good to have another lion in the stable.
