I've done enough stereo installs and other electrical wiring bits and pieces, so after getting a cheapest qoute of 500 for 2 door central and an alarm I reckon I might as well get on ebay and spend less than 200 on the lot and do it myself.
Its to go in my VG ute, can someone who has tried and tested some of the ebay brands recommend something for me? Throw me some links or something maybe?
I'm not really sure if all actuators are created equal, or if they will all be compatible for what i want so if someone has used a brand off ebay with success i'd love to know.
Leaning towards the SPY alarm kits with remote start (I'll probably use it once for each mate i show my new remote start, and never again lol)
...I'm the guy that shakes his gear knob, neutral yep and then lights a smoke forgets if its in neutral shakes gear knob again, then starts it. And at the moment no handbrake... Any way for the remote start to not start it if u've left it in gear, or for it to tell its in gear and stop cranking? Or is it just a case of dont leave it in gear you idiot.
Wats the difference between 2 way and 1 way alarms? Is it just 2 different immobilising points?
you should be able to score a mongoose alarm for around 250 which will include remote central locking kit and the nicest buttons available. (chrome and black, high quality plastic and metal, most alarm buttons are junk) 2 point immobilising, code hopping and JAS ANZ standards, so you get a discount on your insurance.
2 point immobiliser means you can hook it up to two things, i.e. ecu power and fuel pump power. 3 point means three. lol. pretty simple.
does your ute have central locking? if so you dont need actuators, you can just wire up the existing ones.
and i cant think of a way to hook up a neutral start. tbh i think the remote start idea is a bit stupid.
No central locking on it to start with. So I will need actuators. I think remote start is a bit dumb too. Its not something that will ever really be particularly useful. Just the wank factor of standing next to your car and starting it.
I'm thinking cheaper for an alarm. It's only going to have fire and theft insurance on it anyway, and its only a vg ute. Nothing is gonna really stop a pro, but i'm more after a way to stop idiot kids. My fiance's old man got his VK wagon stolen and burnt out a couple of weeks back and he lost probably 4 grand worth of work tools in the process. Bought another VK wagon for 650 or something but the tools will take longer to replace.
If i'm gonna DIY it I think having black wiring could be more pain than its worth...You'll only ever stop an honest thief anyway.
