Ok, you poor, poor members must be so sick of me and my requests for torque specs. But I'm doing my son's VT Ecotec water pump on sunday and would rather do them to torque instaed of guessing it. Sorry for my continual, anal, requests for such trivial stuff, but please? Lol.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Hey Mate.
Manual Says 20-30 NM of torque. I never measured just nice and tight but not swinging on it to break the bolt lol
Be sure to be anal about cleaning the Block and use this - Permatex Form-A-Gasket Sealant - No. 2, 85G - Supercheap Auto Australia
That is a not hardening gasket sealant, you dont want stuff that sets rock hard and then cracks and leaksPut it on both sides on the gasket, like smear the new pump with it, fit gasket, then put sealant on top of the gasket.
Oh and put some gasket sealant around the top of the bolts to help keep them in place. like 1cm around the top. dunno if its required but 2 bolts do get covered in coolant in the block.
Done this 3 times now on 3 commies, never failed yet lol One been on for 2 year + now![]()
Never knew the torque specs for a water pump. As above, just tighten them right up. And also as above, make sure the surfaces are clean and dry before putting the new pump on. form a gasket is your friend.
Stuff that permatex stuff, loctite number 3 aircraft sealant. Best thing for water pumps
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
