    Default Blow torch your springs?

alright guys , sitting down whatching "monster garage" and i see some dude wanting to lower a car but doesnt want to buy new springs
he ripped out his blow torch , held it on it for acouple minuites and aparently the ride of the cars weight will force the springs down and stay at that height
My rear springs are sitting a tiny bit higher then the fronts i was wondering would it be a bad thing to do this? only problem would be one side goes lower then the other .. opinions on wheather i should try it or not?
BIG risk but it might pay off

its called compressing your springs ,no dont do it take it to someone to have them compressed properly ,heating it up in pretty much 1 spot with a blowtorch will do more harm than good.

The reason WHY they took the blow torch to the springs (on the El Camino) was because Jesse James didn't like how high the El Camino was riding.

Also, keep in mind that the El Camino was used in the figure 8 race track. It was a short term use vehicle.

Cutting a spring will affect the life of the spring itself and the ride of your vehicle. Not only that, but the spring was designed to work as a whole. Cutting it, greatly reduces the ability of the spring to work properly.

Doing this to your car is just plain stupid.
    lol found that..

Did you really need to ask this question? If it was as easy as that don't you think every body would do it rather then paying for other springs.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like

With the low price of springs and ease of online shopping for secondhand parts I really do wonder why people bother with ghetto mods like this.
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.

^^What he said. Lowered springs are so so cheap and come up for sale as second handys so often It amazes me that people ever try to cut corners (or springs.... hahahaha)

How the hell would you get all the springs to be even tension and heights using this method. At least cutting them you can take the exact amount from each spring.

you put blocks of wood under the car at the height you want. heat the springs and they will sag down till they rest on the wood then they cool and remain in that position.

the downside is they become hardened steel rather than spring steel and will either ciontinue to sag or just plain ol' snap where you heated them

Don't be knucklehead. Zoom magazine had an article years ago warning people no to mess with this.

Springs have a memory unless u can heat the steel to precise point and treat it afterwards u are farting in the wind.

Like said above go and get some quality lowered springs with a set of shocks to match the spring rate.

If don't change the shocks to match the lowered springs they will just pop out when u go over a bump.

Lol. Can afford a set of 19inch chrome rims but won't fork out $200 for a set of springs.
