Default Tensioner pulley- easing off tension

So im changing the belt and i want to take the tension off... i've done a search but dont seem to be able to find any information on this
Do you just take the pulley off it or do you need to take the tension off the pulley first? In which case how do you take the tension off it as i cant see anything obvious on it to do this?

Its for an ecotec if it makes much difference

i am pretty sure it just the pulley then tensioner. but the pulley can be the up side of a pain in the arse to get off.

why do you need to take the tensioner off though?

does it have a 14mm bolt in the middle of it? if so try tightening that. you may find that pressing it moves the wheel and loosens the belt.

thats how most other cars do it anyway.

Get a 15mm spanner on the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley on and turn it counter clockwise. This will rotate the tensioner and take the tension off the belt allowing you to remove it. Sit the new belt on and do the same again.

That'll be $80 thanks, because i've recently been informed that mechanics shouldn't give out free advice.
