Hey guys I brought a 2002 VX calais l67 about 6months ago, but starting too dislike it. The leather is a pain to maintain so it doesnt split/crack, the older im getting I dont care about the power behind me. It uses quite a bit of fuel and can only run premium which is only rising week by week, insurance is ridiculous (under 25) which comes to the conclusion too sell it and possibly buy a VY-VZ executive im still thinking about it and confused on what to do as I know ill probably only really save 1-3 litres per 100km and downgrading somewhat (options) but gaining a newer car with less kms travelled. What would you do? Thanks
I'd sell it and buy a barina or a cruize. You will use pretty much the same amount of fuel in a VZ (as you've stated) so there's nothing to gain there.
At the end of the day, an exec is going to have problems of it's own down the track. So I mean it's up to you, but I would stick with the Calais
VR II S sedan - Genesis Blue - Cammed 304 - T5 - 19's - Weekend warrior
VS II S ute - Diablo Red - V6 - Getrag - Daily Hack
Yeah look every car is going to have problems im aware of that, but this calais is just starting too annoy me too some agree (leather, trim, insurance, fuel) its currently sitting at 12.7/100 which isnt too bad but but better would be good (I travel 120k's a day to get work and home)
It's a Commodore, people buy them with their heart, not their head. If you want economy, buy a Jap or Euro 4 cylinder.
Sitting at 12.7 is 50/50 highway/stop start with a average speed of 49. Heckk Ive owned commodores all my life abbafan, from vh,vn,vl,vt,vx. Its not im wanting fuel economy but if an ecotec/alloytech could show an improvement over a l67 ild probably go back to the ecotec as my life of enjoying tinkering with cars is slowly drifting away from me as im now into MX riding/bikes and its simply a case of why own a l67 if im not going to have fun with it anymore.
yep id personally prefer a vy vz over a vx even if the vx is an l67
I dont know why you would do this but i do know what i would do
MORE BOOST... chicks dig it
id be happy with another L67 so the wife would stop driving mine. I'll take it off your hands cheap
I get bored with my l67 since I've decided not to mod anymore and its getting quite old but i've decided to stick with it since i'm 25 and gonna buy a house in 12 months. So for me a reliable car that I own outright is the best thing for me regardless of the 12l/100 consumption.
Still, you should drive an ecotec once in a while just to remind yourself of how slow they are and remember why you went the l67 in the first place
Swap someone for a na berlina with velour trim? Get them to throw some extra cash your way.
My suggestion... buy a Cruze deisel. Insurance is cheap, cheap to run and you will never be pulled over. lol.
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a vz acclaim, but be sure to check for any known issues. For instance series one vx's still had the camber issues with the rears, which i had to fix.

I had a bit of a chuckle at the getting too old comment too. I'm 42, I still love working on cars. I don't think a car would ever bore me.
At the moment I have a new Mazda 3 for a work car and still have fun in it.
they go great with a cannon and a bit more downforceAt the moment I have a new Mazda 3 for a work car and still have fun in it.![]()
if you wish to save money get it converted to gas, and a nice set of lined seat covers will protect your leather hence saving you some time in looking after it.
the rebate is currently $1250 cash back from the government, and umm I am just about to hit age 40' have 5 cars (2 with leather interiors) and also look after about 20 clients cars, if anyone is over cars i'd be a top contenderlol.... If your doing that many km's then the LPG initial outlay you will break even very quickly.... but that's my two cents

NAAF and i have 5 cars. 1 is a 6cyl VN on straight gas and she doesn't go too bad, a tank of gas lasts about a week and a half, and that's with doing a shiload of driving too. The Senator is a 5.7L and she gets around the 8-9l/100 on the freeway, but with the bigger exhaust that's now gone up to about 9-10L/100, so still bloody brilliant for a whopping V8.
The 80series Landcruiser is a turbo diesel and chews a bit of fuel up, surprising on how much really. The other 2 are V8s as well, the VC has a worked 5L in it and when registered, a tank would last about a week with solid driving, and the VL with a 308 has never been registered here so wouldn't know.
Sometimes getting a 5L gives better economy and ususally around the same amount as a 6.....but if you want to keep your car, then look at gassing it (wouldn't recommend dual fuel, i'd recommend straight injected gas) and get some seat covers.....problems are easy fixed like that.
but it's your car and your choice on what you want to do.

Buy a Suzuki Swift GLX $19,000. Pretty snappy little car to drive around in with plenty of interior space and safety, as long as you dont like a boot.
