Default Car holding speed without throttle

    G'Day All,

The missus has an AU Falcon, I ####ing hate this car to no end, but she loves it.
Anyways she took it to the mechanic for a service (dont get me started on this) and since its come back its been a bit odd.
First, it just started revving up when driving, but not accelerating, it was doing this by itself.
Now, it doesnt lose very much speed when you take your foot off the accelerator. For example you can being 60km/h, take your foot off, and after 2km's you will be doing 55km/h. If you boot it, it doesnt stay with a higher throttle, just holds the speed still.

Any ideas what this could be, its shitting me to death and want it fixed.

Is selling it and buying her a Prado the best solution? That way we get rid of the piece of ####ing putrid taxi like car and have something decent and reliable.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Your car is stuffed. The best thing to do is buy a Prado.

Ok, best solution sourced (gee who wouldnt believe that guy on the internet).

Now any ideas on how to stop the piece of shit from doing this, I can only imagine its using even more fuel now it isnt returning to idle, need this car for a little bit longer before we can upgrade it.

This car has under 200,000km's on it, it's immaculate in every sense, but god damn its a shit car, every time I hope in it I feel like im wasted and getting into a taxi, I then trip out and start thinking my missus is Indian and is going to charge me some ridiculous fee for driving me around, then rip me off even more and rape my grandma if I dont pay.

Anyways... enough about my hate for the piece of shit, could it be the TPS, Cruise control ####ed/sticky, IAC, or the Torque converter?

Nah, the accelerator returns to normal position, and it will pretty much idle, which makes me suspect the torque converter possibly locking in 4th, appose to sitting in 3rd unlocked? NFI.
Or maybe the cruise control module is holding the cable slightly, but then the accelerator wouldnt return to normal position.

Would love to hit it with a Prado, but that wont be for 6 months atleast, and I cant put up with it for that long, might have to crush it with the 80 series haha, or potentially figure out whats causing this issue.

Also when it decided to rev up on its own, she was doing 60 and it hit the rev limiter, she explained it as if someone stomped on the brakes at the same time, it didnt speed up at all, done it for a few seconds and stopped, then done it again. That only happened twice.

Keep the 80 series, its a real 4wd. I'd rather keep the Ford than get a Prado lol.. overpriced shopping trolley.

I'd like to offer advice on the Ford but I have no clue. Is it drive by wire? Maybe the electronics are playing up, that shit nearly killed a few Toyota owners in recent years. I'd be taking it to a sparky, you would regret not doing so if suddenly it jammed on full throttle and killed someone..

Caus it was service over an hour away, they suggest a local mechanic who seems to think this is normal behaviour *sigh*. Going to have a look at it tonight with a mechanic mate, but interested to see if anyone had anythings to look out for (like a cheap prado).

if its like a BA and has electronic throttle it could be that BA were bad for it.

fixing falcon = cheaper than prado.

you know where to bring it if you want it fixed PROPERLY :P

Majority of the time, sometimes it sits around 1200, a while back it was idling at 2500 in park, but the mechanic fixed it.

If you cant find the cause of the high idle, and its a CFI (Central Fuel Injection) model, the power steering pressure switch can become faulty and cause fast engine idling, and it can be very hard to track down this pressure switch as causing the fast idle, so if everything else checks out ok, check out the wiring and connector as well as the pressure switch itself..

Interesting, seems like an odd system. Ill definitly give it a check.
