when i put my car in gear foward or reverse (auto trans) it makes a clunk noise also when i let my foot off the throttle it makes the same metallic clunk sound does anybody know what normally would cause this ,either tranny, tailshaft or diff ,i know its not suspension as i personally rebuilt it with new everything recently.

Sounds like U-Joints or Diff or Both.
Metallic clunk sounds like U-joints.. If it's a real noticable clunk that you can really feel it and hear it.. its the Diff. :\
That's what my car has ATM and holdens said my diff has excessive clearance..

With respect if that is all that has changed I would check your work and all the nuts, bolts etc. It’s easy to overlook something.

yeah as crisis suggests, check your nuts and bolts. it cant hurt to undo a few and redo with loctite either. just last week i had a bolt come undone on my torque converter (which i did 2 years ago) the spring washer failed and it had been coming loose each time i drove it.

if you have done the trans mount then it probably isnt that. is this a trimatic? trimatics have a habbit of locking in gear when they are getting tired. when they release the noise is kinda like tapping a spanner on the body of the trans. even after i had mine rebuilt it still did it, but it never failed me (with a fair ol' whack of abuse too)

another thing to check is the center bearing on the tailshaft. also did you do both engine mounts when you did the trans mount?

will have to check over all the rear end work i did... just to make sure nothing has come loose i always double check everyting i do, but it could possibly still work its way loose, yes its a trimatic and the spanner sound kinda describes it

I'm not sure if the VK has a 2 piece taillshaft but i had the same problem you described with my old VL and it was my centre bearing.
