Default Skyline R34 GT-T or SS (opens)

    Hey everyone,

Just been thinking lately about getting on my opens (a while away but still) and I always had it set in my mind i'd upgrade from my VT V6 and get a VY/VZ SS for the power and sound.

All and all I am just plain bored with the power and want my next car to be something to modify for power. I have found myself looking at Skyline R34 GT-T's. I love how they look (when done properly and not riced out) and you can see when people spend some cash on mods that they bloody fly!

I was just curious stock if the R34 GTT even stands a chance against a VY/VZ V8 and for whatever money id want to spend on them, which one would be more likely to give me fun and enjoyment in my driving?
Also if anyoen can make anymore preferences of a choice of car im all ears! $20K is a realistic price for me at the moment.

    Thanks alot in advance.

the GT-T should easily keep up with a stock SS up to around 140km/h before the SS starts pulling ahead.

Personally i would get an SS and mod the engine to the point where no ricer could touch it :P

$20k will get you an A5 fresh import R34 GT-T and some cash to play with from Edward Lee. That would be my go, better on petrol, easy to get power out of, and will handle better than the VY/VZ with so little effort.

    Provided you don't mind having a 2door v. a 4door car

If you want a car that can go stupidly quick for cheap and handle well skyline. If you want to be a bogan with a fully sick quick v8 that doesn't handle go the commo.

Personally, I'd be going for the VZ. Now don't get me wrong, the R34 is a great car but I wouldn't be able to pass up a nice commodore.
$20K starting budget would leave you with like 4-5K worth of mods from a VZ. I can't see how that wouldn't be the option to choose.

Skyline. No contest. When done right the spool and boost of a RB sounds just as tough as a V8.

I had a R33 Gts-t n I blew the turbo n after that I never enjoyed it cause i knew hardly anything about it so i went back to my commosores, handling was the best n traction was no problem with huge rear Tyres, I'm a commodore fan but I suggest a skyline if u want something quick n good with handling

They both have there own good and bad. I have 2 V8s, and a turbo XR6, and for sheer power thrill, the turbo wins hands down.
I grew up with the V8 rumble, and still like it, but the quality of the Jap imports makes our local cars look sick.

Bang for buck you cant beat a ricemobile. Its purely a matter of taste isnt it?

Clarify "ricemobile"... Anything Japanese isn't rice, it's the deadshit owners who make them that way...but if you were to broadly catorgorise all Jap stuff as rice the Skylines would be the least "ricemobilish".. I would think anyway..

I also have a couple of Kias (Korean not Japanese but lets not get too pedantic), its a generic term, not meant to offend lol. Being front wheel drive though they arent as much fun as a drivers car.

And its a fact that ummm Asian cars are good value for money unless you are buying an overpriced Toyota.

Its all a matter of personal taste. I like my Kias but wouldnt be seen dead in a Skyline. I know the Skyline is faster, handles betters, etc, but it just doesnt suit my tastes. I'd rather drive a Commodore with all its faults.

My 1991 V8 Soarer, has things in it that Holden, and Ford still havent heard of.
I'm going to need some examples to back this little chestnut because the soarers are the container ships of the Jap scene.

My mate had a '93 soarer V8 and it didn't handle any better than my VX S.

In regards to the OP's question.

If you are after a toy and are not worried about running cost, insurance, etc then the Skyline ftw. No contest comparing a jap sports car to a v8 family sedan.

Holden V8's are just fun cruisers, but I don't think there is anything under the holden or HSV banner that I would consider getting if I was after a sports car.

Only faggots and poofs drive skylines.....get a real car into you. Mods for commodores are much cheaper then Japanese cars. Or if you really want power and handling get yourself gt2

Pretty sure those two are the same thing.

And I cannot agree that mods are cheaper for commodores.

If we're looking $$$/part then they are about on par, but if you look at $$$/power than it's game over for the commodores.

Spend 10K on a V8 and you will have what 300rwkw+, maybe a bit more if you go the F/A route. Spend 10K on a turbo skyline and you will have a rocket ship.
