A bit of back ground info: I bought my car second hand and the bloke I bought it from claimed he tried 4 different exhaust systems on it to get the perfect sound (near silent, but with a gurgle).
Now being young and on my P's I don't want silent, was looking at getting a varex but some people say its shit.
I read a post that the gurgle is from the extractors or something. I'm not casing performance (having said that I don't want to lose it), but what would I need to do to get a nice note from my car.
Would the best bet just be to take it to an exhaust shop and ask them to check whats on the car?
Cheers
Any mechanic should really be able to tell you. But you'll struggle taking it anywhere if you dont wanna pay. What kind of sound you after?

Just found this video and its probably the best example I've found yet Holden Commodore SV6 2.5 inch Exhaust - YouTube
to have the silent sound with a bit of noise, would probs just have mufflers removed on a six?..
your best bet would be a simple 2.5" system, and maybe some extractors if your willing to throw your cash around.
that sv6 clip posted just sounds like my old clanker vy with the resi deleted
The problem with the VZ is that there is no middle ground with an exhaust. It will be deep and a bit loud down low with the right system, but always high pitched and a bit raspy up top. The wrong system and it will sound like shit and drone like buggery.
The choice yoi have is quiet - no drone, loud - drony and shit.
I have a varex as do two of my friends, all on high powered cars, two V8 commodores and one a turbo WRX. None of us have had a problem and mine see's a fair bit of flame.
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
I found a simple 2.5 redback sports exhaust with centre muffler provided a great note and gurgling sound! Go with a 2.5" hi-flow cat or straight pipe replacing the cat for a good note. IMO extractors/pacemakers are rubbish
With great cars, comes great drivers.
