    Default HQ Starter motor

Just bought myself a HQ One tonner today worked fine until the starter motor died. My question is can they be repaired or am I better off chasing a new/second hand one?

been a Bosch, it should be easy to rebuild, depending on whats wrong.

does it just click, or nothing at all?

Tempting, but I live in NT postage will kill me. And I have 2 spare 253's and a 308 so engine parts are fine. Whats it take to put a 4-5 speed manual onto a 253 that has an auto?

Just buy a new Bosch gear reduction starter motor. They're fantastic and only a couple of hundred dollars.

    Look here:

That's obviously not genuine Bosch, but we use them at work and they're great. For that price, it's not even worth fixing the original one.

    Well, 1) you didn't mention what the engine was so i assumed it was a 6 cylinder and 2) they're a straight 6 not a V6.

Try that one then, unless it has some weird extractors it will fit fine.

You can also buy a genuine Bosch one for a V8 for about $250. I'd definately fit one of those to a V8, the original ones are pretty average and getting old.

Yeah sorry keep forgetting that there are still some old cars that have the original 6 in it (up here its pretty rare to see an old car like the HQ without atleast the 253 in it, think its something to do with the AMCARs being big up here and leaving alot of spares :P)

I will buy one, but see if I can repair the other one for now, well tomorrow I should say since its parked at the dump (where it broke down going to tow it home tomorrow, drop the tailshaft and take it home with my Crewman towing it).
