Hi Guys.
Fairly sure I have a dead trans but just after your opinions before I fork out $500 for another one.
My VS shifts perfectly pottering around down normally.....no slippage what so ever.
Yet when I floor it it will start to slip and carry on from around 3500RPM onwards (usually in 1st and 2nd)
Now some have told me its the bands in the trans letting go, but some have also said if it was the bands it would be slipping throughout the rev range.....I also have lots of people telling me the symptoms sound like the torque converter as the problem is only occuring under load.
I have replaced the TPS just to make sure and also checked for any error codes
Thoughts?
Also if I do need a new trans can I swap from a 6HDD to a 8HDD without any dramas? (the 8HDD is from a series II VS)
Thanks
not too sure about the 6HDD to 8HDD but your problems definitely sound like tranny problems.
as you mentioned slipping bands. won't do it when your pottering around because there isnt as much load/stress on them.
bad example but in my mums car you take off causal all is well, put the foot down and it does nothing but slips because of the extra load.
have you done any work to your motor??
may be worth just getting a box rebuilt a bit stronger shift kit, corvette servo's etc so as you dont continually f*ck your box, as most wrecker boxes are all going too have high kms on them as there from cars 15 years old.. just a thought..
I'm taking my VS in tomorrow to get the Transmission looked at/repaired. I think its the torque converter but when it changes from 2nd to 3rd, and then 3rd to 4th, the revs don't drop. You can feel it change gears but the revs say the same (if that makes sense). Also it really thumps into 2nd gear from 1st (which I have been told is the valve body).
