    Default VS Commodore Key

    Hey all,

I have a problem with my VS Commodore and a reset key, not sure if the mechanic is trying to jack me or what but he wants to replace the whole locking system in my car.

The problem is my key battery has died, i got the replacement key and was told to follow some simple instructions to have it work with my car. Its coded and everything.

The first instruction was to unlock the car manually with the old key... problem, the key barrel on the door has never worked, it was always opened with the button on the key. The key works fine for the boot, just not the door.

I cant get the new key to be reset properly without opening the door manually, anyone know a way around this?

Id rather crack the old key open and replace the battery then replace the locking system for my car, thats a joke...

Has anyone had similar issues or advice of what to do?

    Cheers

It depends how bad your battery is, if it is completly dead, then you will probably have to buy a new key head, i had a vr with two dead keys, got bought two new ones, and coded to my car, took 20 minutes and 240 bucks, imo you are better off taking it to a trusty locksmith, they have all the right gear and do it on a day to day basis. Not saying your mechanic cant but thats what i'd be doing

Basically if you can get into the car,
Hop in an close the door,
Put key into the ignition an start the car (if it doesn start straight away wait a few seconds an it should start if the key has been programmed correctly)
If the car starts let it idle for 30seconds,
After 30seconds turn the car off,
Hop out an close the door,
Press the button an if all is good car should lock like normal,

If the car doesn't start then the key wasn't programmed correctly an you need to get the key checked,.,.
You don't need to replace the whole locking system at all,,
Any dramas let me know an i can tell what to do next but try this for now an see how you go,,
