Default 20" wheels on ultra lows Suspension strut clearance issue. Please help.

    Hey every one,

I Put my 20" chrome wheels back on today after more than a year cause I missed them.

But the FRONT wheels are scrubbing the STRUTS (not the guards).
My question is if I raise the car from ultralows to superlows will that fix the problem?
I think my other option would have to be getting a profile of 30 as I currently have 245/35/20
However that's going to make the comfort of my ride even worse than what it already is. So that's a no go.

The chrome wheels are 20x8.5 and my sigs are 20x8 with the same exact Tyres and they don't scrub.

So is there really a way to solve this issue if raising the car doesn't work?

    Help please.

It MAY fix the problem depending where on the strut its rubbing, and at what angle the tyre is when it does.

A different offset wheel might help, depending on the clearance to the guard, but thats not the answer if you want to keep these mags.

is it rubbing on the bottom of the spring seat?? the part that flares out from the strut width to the spring width??
if it is, its the tyre profile thats causeing the issue, (and probably offeset) changing the spring wont do anything cause that distance doesnt move, its a solid part that all the movemt happens above it.

maybe a set of spacers might get you out of trouble

Yea that's the part it's scrubbing, pretty much the part the spring sits on. So the base.

Yea i knew that changing to a higher spring won't make a difference.

What do u mean by the spacers, I thought u couldn't get any for the front there only fir the rear???

    Thanks.

spacers are just a thickness of metal to adjust the offest of the wheel, can go front or back, but not really recommended, as it moves all the weight from the hub to the studs. you can get decent ones that have a extra lip on them to take the load off the studs

    There's your problem then.

For clearance (on the fronts) you need to either run a 225/35/20 slight stretch or a 245/30/20 slightly skinnier, the taller and wider profile will hit the spring saddle as you've found out, if you want them the spring saddle will need slight modification. (Read- bending up with a large hammer - not recommended or legal!)

And AFAIK Spacers are illegal also, even hub-centric ones. Which voids Insurances.

No drama's. Only thing you have to watch with 225/35/20's is the load rating. There's only a few that do a tyre to suit. Not too sure about the 245/30's haven't ran those before.

Found all this out when putting tyres on my ride, Hope it helps!

8.5" rims would be illegal too (25mm max increase) and i'm not sure they'd clear even with the right tyre profile.

20x8 however should clear perfectly (and be legal) with 225/35 or 245/30

correct me if i'm wrong, 8.5 just sounds a bit big.

I told you in your thread they were too big nufty lol, 225/35/20 or 245/30/20 are the only ones you can fit :P

edit: I'm going to guess that have a different offset, But raising it may a little.. probably not though.

as was said, run a 225/35/20 tyre and you will be fine, thats what i run and never had any scrubbing issues
