    Default Musical Air Horn installation

    Hey guys,

Gonna buy a La Cucaracha air horn off ebay and going to install it in my VT.
Now I know some of you will be like, "thats so gay and shit" but that's the whole reason why im getting it

But, seeing as though I am actually the worst person when it comes to electrical stuff, would any of you be able to install it for me?
    Cash awaits, obviously.

I'd also want to be keeping the original horn too and just have a switch for the air horn, mainly for legal reasons and all that jazz.

    Im located in Carrum, Victoria.
    Will travel though.

They are very easy. From compressor, negative side to battery or body. Positive side to switch, then from switch to battery, easy.

i have "whistling dixie", spewin' i didnt get La Cucaracha, would've suited my impala better in hindsight. plus put the horns in such a difficult spot to get to

anyway yeah, installing is easy-as. DIY it mate just hide the trumpets as best you can. cops can give you a canary for them, even if they are hooked to a switch.

I wouldn't mind getting a single tone horn for the odd moments when the OEM horn just won't get the message across. Anyone know if this is legal, would it depend on how loud the horn was?

its not the volume thats the issue, its the tone.

had to use an image cos dotars are a bunch of retards who cant make a pdf copy/paste-able

so what those rules mean are basically, 1. as long as it doesnt sound like a police car, ambulance etc. 2. as long as it is a not a reapeating noise (i.e. siren) 3. as long as it is single tone = RWC.

so whistling dixie is out cos it has more than one tone.

edit* oh thats ADR 42 - general safety. if you wanna google it section 20

Can you make a horn say "FFFFUUUUUCCCCKKKKK YOU" in one tone?

I had the "Dukes of Hazzard" tune (whatever it is called) in my Torana in the late '80s in Qld. The plod heard it one night, pulled me over and fined me for "Creating undue noise through manner of operation".....lol

Interestingly, a mate got the same fine for doing a little skid !

Yeah i've read a fair few things about that multiple tones making it illegal.
    Fair enough too I suppose.

But still, I would rather someone install it for me because im rubbish at doing things like that/paranoid i'll screw something major up

you dont HAVE to, but its best practice. they draw a fair whack-o-amps, so itll prolly set fire to a cheap switch if you were to hold it on for a while (and trust me, its really lol to play it 4 times over) you can just use a nice big 25A switch if you dont understnad the basics of wiring a relay.

OP, if you wanna bring the car in to my workshop in richmond, ill be happy to show you how to wire it up. send me a PM.

Along the lines of this, i want to get an old cheap AM cb radio, one with a PA output and hook up a big arse PA speaker under the front of the car.
Then you could get the mic and say shit to people as you cruise past, yell at people, scare people etc haha.
was gonna do it in the old VP for shits and giggles

I have Dixie land in my VP. It's a good bit of fun when used appropriately. Wiring is dead easy, positive from battery to switch. Switch to inductive side (low current) of the relay, relay to negative of battery. Second set is positive of battery to switching side of relay (high current) to positive of compressor negative to battery. I threw in a 20A fuse in for good measure too. Definitely use a relay!
