Default Replace current LX6 Adventra V6 with shiny new engine....latest Commodore V6

I'm looking at repowering my LX6 adventra. Current donkey has 189,000km on it and it is starting to struggle towing my boat on long trips. Can I purchase a brand new high tec Commodore V6 engine seperately (from the latest model) and have replace it easily or should I look at a rebuild/reconditioned alternates. Cheers Adventure1.

Well if you really wanted too, VZ ALLOYTEC (SERI) LY7 190 KW CRATE MOTOR (SERIES I)

But I would be looking in to why its losing power instead.

Or just sell it and buy another car.

Fixed. But to the OP. I'm not sure I'd buy an Adventra as a tow vehicle although the 4wd would be good for boat ramps and the like. As mentioned above, I'd be looking to figure out why the car is loosing power first. Fitting the latest spec SIDI engine would be an epic mission. I'd look to sell your current car and buy a 5.7 litre one (or better still 6 litre if they made them) which would be way better for towing. Would probably work out significantly cheaper and have a car worth more when you onsell it down the track.

Thanks for feedback guys.... My Adventra is in great condition (bar the sluggish six) and I don't really want to sell it. I've thought about replacing it with an alternate AWD like the latest outback, territory or even a rangie sport. I have a 3.0 litre Outback that is superquick but thru towing thye boat I've gone thru one diff so they're not tough enough for the job. As far as the rangie and territory goes...well they're not commodores and there's not a better looking vehicle on the market that is as functional and has all the fruit that the LX6 has. Your advice on the V8* sounds like the way to go but can i repower with a v8 SSDI and what sort of cost am i looking at.

Hi, interested to know the outcome of this as my adventra sx6 just blew a head gasket. With 283kms i dunno if I should replace head gaskets or install a replacement. I bought the car to do everything from towing the boat to dragging the family round. Haven't even tried towing the boat yet but the car was ringing it's guts out uphills over Xmas hols with only a 8x4 trailer out back. Maybe it was down on power due to its high mileage i dunno really, kinda expected more. 190s are hard to come by over here & the wreckers wanting big money for them eg $4700 exchange for a low mileage example. Apparently the repower is an easier job than changing head gaskets? I,m wanting to do as much as poss myself to save some cash.
