No you can't drive a V8 on P-Plates, you can fill out an exemption form but you need a really good reason to drive a V8 otherwise don't bother.
Not sure about the laws in NSW but as above it's not legal in VIC and you can try for a exemption but I wouldn't hold your breath!
PERFORMANCE MODS- JTG Liquid injection, Under driven pulley, Pacemaker extractors, 3" X-force system, Cold air intake, MAF Less tune 267.9 RWKW'S

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
Should just wait like the majority of other people have to..
I think the exemption is for things like families who only own 1 car which is a V8.

there is a loophole i know of in Vic that allows V8 on P's without requiring exemptions etc
i did have it posted up but have deleted it as i do not think it is neccessary to post it up and give ideas.
but those who do the loophole i will loose all repect i may have had for you.
but seriously, just wait it out.
save the dollars now and be able to have something awesome when your off your p's.
also isnt it in NSW you can drive a v8 if its a diesel?
eg a landcruiser ute (could the dodge ram come under that ruling?)
I sold my vz ute, as im needing a sedan an i got good money for it, so mum said i can use her SS if i get the exemption from the rta for it, plus the girl i know is driving a vq v8 statesman, so its got nothing to do with power to weight i dont think
Just buy a V6 Sedan or something until you get off your P's. I'm guessing you got over $20,000 for the VZ Ute so thats plenty to buy a V6 Sedan and heaps left over.
I think the majority of P-Platers have accepted the fact that they are not allowed to drive V8's on P's so they wait until they have their full licence.

There are plenty of people who believe it is ok, check wit the insurer of the vehicle. Even with an exemption, you may find there is no insurance and that may make the risk not worthwhile.
Save up for when you're a bit older, wiser and insuance is cheaper.
Instead of asking on a public forum what the obvious laws are. Why don't you ring your relevant state's road authority (VicRoads, RTA etc) or check the website.
Ranting.
What happens if somebody from WA drives his parent's V8 in VIC while on holiday?
(Or his own, no power laws in WA)
you follow your own states laws regarding p plates when interstate
ive already confirmed that with authorities.
and have written confirmation posted somewhere on this site =P
however if your on L's its different.
you still follow your own states laws but some states (eg NSW) make all learners travel at 80kph.
Actually that just reminded me, how come in Vic, some P-Plates have 100 or 80 circled on it and most of the other ones don't? I have always thought it was because they have been caught speeding a few times so now they are restricted to that speed limit.
