Default car doesent start. starter mortor? (nissan)

ive had this car for about 9 months and with out any problems.
on tuesday i drove for about 100k's with the aircon on full ball with my tunes cranking loud so i wouldn't have heard anything.
i pulled into a servo filled her up got in the car and it wouldn't start had a quick look couldn't find anything so pushed her out the way and went for a walk to let the car (read "ME") cool down returned 3 hours later gave it about 20 try's with no luck left it for another 20 minutes to get the number for a tow truck came back and she started.
on the drive home the engine ran normal but made a grinding noise with the engine rpm when i got home and turned it off it wouldn't start again so i suspected started motor.
today i managed to get it started i put her in 4th and pushed her back and forth then after about 10 minutes she started with a fair amount of smoke that smelt like burning rubber coming from the belts for about 5 seconds but with out the grinding noise, i drove around the block a few times when i got home i turned it off and then started her again (first time) this time with the grinding noise.
    after that she wouldn't start.
my first thought was the starter motor was cactus or wasnt makeing contact but i dont think that would explain the smoke, any thoughts?

try to ignore my stupid phone vibrating

on top of the starter motor

    starts

Yeah you might want to pull the starter motor off before u destroy more than just the starter motor. To me it sounds like the gear on the starter motor is catus, or the ring gear hence the smashing gear like noise. The bonus is the soilinoid sounds alright

sounds like one of the plantarys in the starter has bust. does the starter actually turn the motor over when its making that horrible noise?

other thread i forgot about this one should i replace this

Replaced the starter motor today with a genuine nissan one, the old one was a lot larger.
The engine turns with no grinding but it wont start where should i be looking first? sparks and leads, dizy cap or fuel?
also the red led next to the dash light dimmer Switz lights up now when i turn the key it hasn't before.

you mentioned there was burning rubber smell like one of the fan belts was burning. Have you taken your belts off and checked the bearings on alternator, pwr steer, water pump and a/c?

I scored a near mint VS 3 years ago because NRMA told the owner the engine had siezed and the car isn't worth putting a new engine in... the belt on the ecotech must've had really good grip cause it turned out to be the alternator bearing had siezed...
So if you're burning the belts, check your alternator

    all good got it started
I pulled the fuel pump fuse and blew a bit of air in the hole, gave the plugs a bit of a jiggle and gave the dizzy cap a few taps with my hand, kept on cranking it on and off for a few minutes and she started, Im not sure whether what i did had anything to do with it starting or if it was just a fluke.
It seems to have developed a oil leak aswell possibly from a dried out seal or from not being started for 4 or so months but i'll worry about that another day.

oil leaks are just another way to extend the life of your oil. as it comes out, you top it up with fresh oil! presto! 30k kms with no oil change

    *joking btw*
