    Default Identify this Transmission noise.

Hi all, I have a VX executive and the trans just gave out.
its making a siren like noise and still reads on the speedo, but no drive in any gear or direction.

im wondering if anyone has had or seen this same thing happen and if its repairable or if the trans is a bin job.

    Wow that's different.
Was there any warning signs that it was on it's way or it did it happen all of a sudden?

looks like a striped spline on your output shaft when i look at a broken down pic of of the gearbox. slide the tailshaft off and take off the back cover that houses the speed sensor

Would you like some cheese what that whine?

That sounds pretty terminal for your gearbox/transmission. It sounds like the output shaft has lost connection to the main drive in the box, either with something having stripped out or just clean snapped, either way, it sounds like an expensive fix.

I had an auto trans years ago decide to give up on me in peak hour traffic up a hill on a bridge, couldnt find a better place to break down, but even it didnt make that noise.
How does the tranny fluid look? Any metal or burnt oil on the stick? Has the car been sluggish to engage drive or reverse lately?

it was a sudden thing, made a few bangs and clunks as it happened.

trans fluid is clean and not burnt, no metal filings

i can get a 2nd hand trans for $275 so thats probably the route ill take. once ive taken this out to see what it is anyway.
