Default How to keep external wastegate open? Anyone know?

I have just about finished my turbo build and I need to get it to the dyno to tune which is about 30km away.

How can I keep the external waste gate open?

Can I take the spring out? Will that work? Need to know asap and please don't reply if you don't definitely know.

    Thanks

I don't have access to a trailer or a car with a tow bar unfortunately. ( and cant really afford to hire either) I think taking the waste gate off is prob the best bet like said above

Can you afford to fix it if you damage it from some info off a forum?

If you can afford a turbo build but not the cost of getting it to the tuning place your priorities are sadly misplaced. The whole purpose of a wastegate is to control the pressure. No wastegate and you run the risk of a catastrophic boost spike.

If you take the wastegate and the bov off completely you'll be fine.
I driven 300km to get a tune with forced induction - just don't load it up, it won't spool and nothing bad will happen.

With no wastegate there is no way the exhaust can spool the turbo enough to make any boost, also with the bov gone, any boost that could be made would be bled out the 25mm hole in my intake pipe...

honestly if you knew how to build a turbo set up you should understand the basic principals in which it operates... such as dont rev it or load it up and it wont make boost and bad shit wont potentially happen

Mate, I clearly know how to seeing that I have built it and it runs... Just have never done it or worked with it before and wanted to be 100% sure seeing my new motor has only done like 25,000km n don't wanna wreck it.

Just a quick question. How should my PCV bypass work, nothing in previous posts made total sense. I've got breathers in both rocker covers and the pcv is welded closed with a 5c top and bottom. But the line from the side of intake manifold which usually goes to T/B is what i'm not sure about. Is it meant to be blocked off or left with a filter or something? Because car is blowing white smoke (which is burning oil) The barb on the T/B is blocked off

If you have twin breathers and disabled pcv, then plug tb and manifold barb. They are made redundant by the twin breathers.

My main concern with your trip isnt turbo damage. Im worried about your brake setup. Are you still running a booster? And vacuum pump?

Well that's weird because car is blowing smoke which is definitely oil. And only options would be something wrong with PCV system or blown turbo oil seals (which I don't see how that could happen seeing it's brand new and have only driven about 6km in total, running no boost just N/A)

How does the PCV valve need to be plugged? Does it need to seal tight or what?

Unbolt the turbo and fire it up, if it smokes still it's not your turbo.
Mine smoked to start off too - turns out I had a faulty seal to start off with in the turbo itself

Was your turbo a brand-spanker? Can you tell me how you have your pcv sealed and re-routed, i'm still can't rule that out 100%

    My PCV setup:

    My blocked PCV valve:

It has a 5 cent coin tig welded top and bottom, completely sealed. I hope that is how it's meant to be?

If my PCV is all fine then turbo must be the problem. How much are new seals for one?

The turbo actually relies on boost/ pressure on exhaust and compressor sides to stop oil leaking

My turbo was brand new, and I never blocked off my PCV I just put a catch can on and ran a breather from each cover.
    Why did you block it?

That's interesting...I've heard so many different things now; like oil restrictor problems, oil seals, pcv problems etc. So i'm assuming you run a turbo setup? Did this happen if you were not running boost?

I did it cause all the turbo build posts that I read in past had said it was crucial. Now i'm super confused. I think tomorrow i'm gonna get a new PCV and hook it back up to how it used to be. (I was running a catch can back then) Should I plumb the fresh air intake hose to in-between the turbo and air filter?

Well my PCV connects to the catch can, and it just vents to atmosphere.
